OK so managed to work on refinishing a royal oak dial. In this case, a grey 15500.
The issue with the rep dial (15400 and 15500):
1. Looks too plasticky
2. Too glossy vs gen
3. Cheap surface finish.
4. Wrong tapisserie profile when examined.
5. Color are off (most noticeable in grey and blue)
So the dial in this case has been refinished to a lighter and more accurate grey, and slightly mattified, while treated to give it a sunburst finish like the gen. The surface finish has been improved. While tapisserie profile is still incorrect, there is nothing to be done about that, and this is only evident when dial is examined closely next to the gen.
So this will be a lower cost alternative to having a gen dial installed. It is NOT perfect, but it sure is a lot better than the rep dial, specifically in terms of visual appearance, sunburst, and for the grey and blue, color.
Will do more comparos and updates on other colors when I can.
Thank you for your time reading this.
