you do turn the crown in the opposite direction to advance the date on a gen as opposed to a rep. :)

IMO, the smart people are the ones who can afford gens, but wear great reps and invest their money in other things.

I totally agree with the point of wearing a rep that fits your lifestyle/earning potential. People can believe me wearing a GMT IIc or a SOSF, but know I would never spend $15K on a Daytona.

so do i care if people don't believe my gen rolex's are real when they see me driving my old truck wearing my normal harley teeshirts, levi's 501 and new balance tennis shoes? trust me when i tell you i don't give a shit. if they question it i will just give them the number to reed's jewelers and have them ask my sales lady.

The biggest tell, whilst not visual, is that in modern Rolex's, the crown turns in different directions to advance/retard time than in our Asian and ETA powered reps, the date as well if I'm not mistaken...;)

boooo. if that's true, Rolex is trying very hard. rebuilding the movements n all...
whats next, link screws on left? i guess no more 'lefty loosie righty tighty'

Well , I just compared two of my reps to my gen "m" sub and - yes - the crown turns the opposite way for date and hour/min , yes the CG's are HUGE on the reps , and yes the movements are noisy on reps and you can even feel them a bit off balance too. So there is three ...

So none of them are really that bad. The winder direction is not a tell. Rotors can be tuned. And the CGs are a macro thing.

Bud, that would be judgmental call by others not a true depiction of your financial status.

How is this for a "tell". I was at an AD this weekend looking at a Tag and the sales guy was wearing a really bad rep of GMT with pepsi bezel.
I kept eye balling his watch i swear it had a quartz movement.
I made a comment to my wife about it and after she looked at it we both got a kick out of it.
She said "arent rolex's supposed to have sweeping second hand? His is ticking".

I am aware of the way they set. I just never hand my watch around the room so everyone can play with the winder.

everyone thinks a Rolex is fake. Even real ones are fake. Rolex = fake. Even if it's real. :)

You mean the crown?
...Ahhhh, but you let them shake it about to hear the rotor...I stand corrected...or do I? :cool2:

I guess the "tells" discussion needs to be divided into "on the wrist" and "off the wrist". Certainly you'll never be called out on the direction of crown rotation "on the wrist". Most of the loupe stuff falls into that category as well, IMO.

lol I never have. But then again I have never been asked about my watch. If anyone ever were to I don't see how it would ever get into their hand to swirl. But then again it wouldn't cross their mind to do so because most of them don't even know what a rotor is.

It always comes down to the way gen and rep owners think. It is not normal behavior for people to pass their 10k watches around at parties.

what about the weight? my mates got a gen dateless sub and it seems lighter to me than my subs.

i would not have thought taking the datewheel off took a noticeable amount of weight away!

I've heard the look of the "new" issue Rolex Sub and GMTII reps w/ the 316F steel is VERY realistic (look and feel) ..... anyone who has come in contact with them have an opinion? If they are a step "up", I'd be interested in ordering one!

I've heard a couple different opinions. I wonder if you placed a 316L and a 316F GMT side by side if you could really tell the difference. I wonder even more if you ordered one, how you'd know you got one? Call me a cynic, but it looks like a good way to charge more for a detail you didn't know you needed.

about 2 months ago i put a link from a rep daytona bracelet from ruby in my gen daytona, cleaned the fingerprints off and the color/look was the same. the only way you could tell was because a rep just isn't finished to the same level a gen is. the edges were too sharp and it was about .005 too wide at the outside edges.

all this stuff about the color of the ss is not true.
