I think Omega (UK) are moving in the same direction.

Someone having a laugh??

As I posted previously, I v'e taken my Seamaster to Fish Bros in Chelmsford for a Service (£135).

They called back today with quotes for replacement bits to bring it back to A1.

I v'e got a small scratch on the glass at 5 o'clock, £500 new glass! No thanks you can hardly see the scratch anyway.
There's a couple of small scratches on the bezel, £560 new bezel!! No thanks I'll ignore them.
The luminosity has gone from the face dots and hands, £460 to replace!!! No thanks I'll wear my Luminox or MTM to bed or in the dark.
The bracelet and clasp have normal wear marks from a 15 yr old daily wear prestige watch, £90 to polish!!!!
No thanks, they'll probably come back.

Just the service and reseal then please.

At that kind of prices Im really glad that im into reps instead!

The last time I took my wife's gen Cartier Tank Francaise to Cartier to change the battery, they took five weeks and charged me £100 ($150 us).
And they didn't even clean it!
Five weeks and £100 to change the battery!!! W T F !!

I now take it o my local jeweller who charges me £5 for EXACTLY the same battery. AND he cleans it!

Jeez, and Rolex and Omega wonder why people are so into reps! If I had all the money in the world I wouldn't own a Rolex just on principle alone.

I think the topic has moved from the supplying of after market parts to getting things done at an Authorized Service Center. My watchmaker will service Omega watches, and if there is something broken, he can get parts fairly easy. He can even service Rolex watches. In fact, a friend of mine wanted his gen Rolex serviced, and I referred him to my watch maker. He said an AD wanted over $1000 to service it. My guy charged him $350, and it is working perfectly. He even cleaned the watch and removed all scratches from the band! But if he would have had to order a part for it(meaning the case, or tube/crown) he would have had to turn down the job and send him on his way. The only other option for my friend would be to pony up for the $1000. So that is what really bothers me, the fact that no one is allowed to get the parts except authorized dealers.

My watchmaker won't even work on Citizen watches if the solar cell needs to be replaced because they are so expensive. But I've changed one of my friends citizen cells with no problem. So at least you can get the parts easily, and I'm not even a watch maker!

The guy in the shop then took out a book and looked up the watch to determine the price of the battery. Being a Chopard, the price was then determined to be £70. More than the price of the rep!!

How a battery can cost more or less depending on the make of the watch is beyond me, and I just walked out.

I then took it to a small watch smith who charged me £5.

The watch market is a strange thing.

Sounds about right. Been there myself. You did the right thing, as soon as the the greedy bastards get a sniff of, what they think is an expensive watch, the price goes up!
