The Ref. 16760 was the first 'GMT Master II'. It was nicknamed 'Fat Lady' or 'Sophia Loren' because of it's thicker case ( 0.5 mm thicker than it's predecessor the 16750 and it's successor the 16700), and it's more generous, curvier lines, it also had new, chunkier crown guards. The 16760 had a relatively short run, only being produced from 1983 until 1988.
It was first GMT with white gold indices borders and a sapphire crystal. The 16760 was only offered in stainless steel with the red/black 'Coke' bezel, which was a new combination. It kept the drilled lugs of previous GMT models, but the winding crown went from 5.3 mm to 6 mm.
With the new calibre 3085 the 24-hour hand became independently adjustable. The seconds hand only stopped when the crown was pulled all the way out, meaning accurate time could be kept while setting the watch (the quick-set date was sacrificed for this exciting feature). Now, since home time and local time could be read simultaneously on the face of the watch, the bezel could be used to calculate a third time zone if needed.
The rotating bezel, while remaining bi-directional, now had a ratcheting action. This particular GMT model had a relatively short run, only being produced from 1983 until 1988.
Specs on this one are:
Genuine Rolex 'spider' 16760 dial.
Rolex Coke insert.
Swiss ETA 2836 with GMT module.
Heavily re-worked rep case, aftermarket bezel assembly.
Star Time bracelet, rep clasp, aftermarket crystal.
Thanks for looking !
