Explorer I [39mm]

Here are a couple of pics of my Explorer I in 39mm all dressed up in a GMT IIc bracelet! Looks much better in my opinion. A little bit of shine and elegance from the mid links of that bracelet combines with the Explorer I's polished-up bezel ring to complete the "look" I was after. Not too sporty, and not too blingy. Sometimes a pseudo hybrid turns out OK. All sealed up, after proper greasing of the gaskets and crown 'O' ring, has had a lot of swimming and other watery adventures and it sure holds up and keeps on ticking! I think it is a nice simple watch. Can't go wrong with this one.

Thanks, definitely a nice mod by Sumikito combining the Explorer I with a bracelet having polished mid links! The watch looks much more elegant and good if it has a glidelock clasp.
P.S. Personally I would have opt out that variant because with daily use it becomes very difficult to keep polished watches and bracelets in good shape.

Wow, talk about bringing back the dead lol.

Thanks for the advice MacAnthony. A while back I did something similar to what you mentioned but used rubber cement and although it seemed to have reinforced it, the gap still remains.

But maybe some of you may be happy to know that I still have the watch and t still works! Aside from changing the hands everything is as good as when I got it. Check it out:

Notice you can still see the gap in the bracelet.

Bringing back the dead again:thumbsup:
Great pics airking! These hands make it look much much better imho. I would love a version 4 with correct hands and matte dial..
Greetings!

Like others have said, thanks for the review Air King. I love the 39mm Explorer, but have held back from getting one due to the oversized hand issue. May I ask what sized hands you used, and where you got them?

I got the hands off eBay from Clark's. Regular submariner hands for eta 2836. They sell both types so make sure you get the right ones.

The version I reviewed is a little old. I think there's a newer version coming out with then sa3135 movement. I recommend you guys check that out. It has the skinny hands as well. Might be worth the wait :)

Time to bring this one back from the dead once again :)
Great review airking, and really nice to see the mod with new hands. I'm also thinking about changing the hands on my A2836 Explorer 1. However, how do one know if the hands will fit my watch? Are these the correct slim hands: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Hands-1570-...r-with-white-luminous-for-Rolex-/231311122731

Thanks for any help I can get!

Thanks Bozz, so those are the slim hands we're talking about here?

Also got this beauty, pricey but very gen-like in my opinion. The clone movement performs very good so far.

Nice watch laslo! Yeah, I bought this watch way back in the day and I wonder how much different it is than the newer ones that came out. I would guess there are probably some significant improvements that warrant the extra money (ie the movement).
