It doesn’t disintegrate! You can re-plate or go back to base metal (steel). You make it seem they are constructed of alka seltzer bits in the rain fizzing into nothing :)!

Well you cannot go back to steel if any component of the dial is gold as well ;) But replating sounds like a good idea, I know a few jewellers who actually offer this service

My jeweler said it never really comes out the same again if you replate. He could be wrong though

Probably right. I mean probably you’d need to sand down an area rather than just spruce up a scratch.

It’s like when I attempt home projects and nail the wrong place. I use toothpaste to plug the hole. And you can imagine how “handy” I am. My walls are radiating with fluoride.

I agree that it's not a super rep, but it could be NWBIG. Same with the Date version. The VF Date version is close and only .5mm thicker.

There are also silver versions of both Time and Date, which would avoid the gold plating issues.

the rolex logo is a tad bit rounder at the base circle on the rep than the gen.

the white gold version is much better looking and tougher to tell apart. besides weight and the roundness issue I mentioned, it is damn near superrep. black dial with printed roman numerals appears to be #1.

anyone have a solution for the logo?

No he's not wrong, replating correctly requires taking all the gold off and a total polish of the base metal. BTW those cheap consumer electroplate lits are not worth the price of the box they come in, the results are shite. A decent replating setup will set you back at least 1200 bucks or so plus fluids.

Can confirm! Ok for Dial touch up. Made a huge mess and destroyed some furniture and a watch with the cheap one :) arts & crafts

It's all to do with the way the current is delivered, the cheap kits are just a simple transformer whereas a real one varies the waveform and has much finer control over amperage. Cheap fluid is also a waste of time, it's gold after all so if it's cheap there's bugger all gold in it.
