Rolex box Comparison –GEN, TOP, CHEAP

Hello, this is Steve. I'm coming again!

Today I'll show you the comparisons of Rolex box between gen and replica. For GEN, we apply the whole set of black 116500 in May, 2022. We also apply two versions of replicas, one is TOP that sale to foreign market by all TDs, the other is CHEAP that as complimentary box in domestic market.

Ok, let's go straight to do it.

From left to right are Gen, Top, Cheap

The stereoscopic of outer crown of the TOP box looks very well. It’s just that the ellipses aren’t flat enough! But the CHEAP one is more terrible exactly.

the color of TOP is very close to the GEN, but a little bit darker. And the color of CHEAP version is more different and it’s dark and has no texture.

The print of CHEAP version is exactly tricking, but it could not be helped because of controlling costs. it’s a free gift, after all.

The various frame details of TOP version is similar to the GEN! The deviation of crown and font is hard to avoid. It's also used as an identification point for GEN!

​

TOP’s pillow is thinner and smaller than GEN which is needed to be improved.

There are two small pits on the top right of the front of the GEN card and there is an NFC chip inside the card, so if you get close to your phone camera, a link to the Rolex website will pop up.

The cheap version of the card has no pits or NFC.

I forgot to take a photo of the TOP card, but I'll post it later!

I just took an EW Factory Panda Daytona 116500 warranty card to test the shot, although the card also has no pits, it's nice to have the NFC chip, except that when you click in, the model number pops up for the corresponding model!

How much are the TOP boxes? Also you didn't speak about the quality compared to Gen.

The replica boxes are very poor quality even the TOP ones. I can buy a box with the exact same lining and cushions as the genuine one, with a nice polished wood frame and a window, that holds multiple watches, for £22 on amazon.
I have one and I have a few genuine Rolex boxes too and I can confirm that the £22 box has the exact same cushions and cloth as the genuine Rolex, identical, from the same stock.

Now, point is, if I can get a box with the same quality as genuine interior but with x6 cushions and a nice cherry wood polished exterior for £22 with free shipping, amazon get a profit, the reseller gets a profit, the wholesaler gets a profit, the factory gets a profit - what has it really cost to produce that box? £2? Better.. if that costs £2 for that nice cherry wood box, what does it really cost for a genuine Rolex box which is card and plastic instead of wood? My guess is £0.25p.

So if a genuine Rolex box costs £0.25p to produce, I can guess what does the TOP replica box costs to produce. £0.002.

What did you say these sell for? Well over $100 if you include shipping I bet. Nice turn for someone that.


The replica boxes are absolutey hopeless, they wouldn't fool a womble and they make a good rep look fake. They are for the bin in my opinion.

This is something the rep makers could get 100% correct if only they invested in the same materials as gen, as I have demonstrated above this is not expensive to produce but I think they must be too greedy to bother to improve it as folk keep buying them.

interesting, but i think there’s a reason top rep makers don’t want to copy gen boxes 100%. they make 1:1 clone movements, dials, cases, etc. so i’m pretty sure they can make 1:1 boxes. they are plastic and paper after all. the only people who really care about 1:1 boxes are the ones trying to pass off as gen.

same with clean stamping their brand on inserts. i’m pretty sure most “experts” will not be able to decipher between a gen insert and one without a clean stamp. but they won’t want to draw the unnecessary attention more than they have.

Yikes well over a 100. You can buy a Gen box for 145usd on eBay with booklets if you have that itch.

No.. you got this wrong. The factory that makes dials does not produce boxes, neither does the factory that produces movements or the factory that produces hands or gaskets or cyrstals.. each component comes from a different factory and the watches are assembled from this collection of parts that arrive from the various factories.

The factory that produces the boxes makes boxes and packaging, that's all they will do. Even then the plastic green box and the outer card box are probably made in separate factories too. All that is required is for someone to care and place an order for a better quality box costing £0.50p that they can sell for $100 instead of the cheap one costing £0.02.

Thank you for the detailed photos! I agree the smell is a huge factor however it matters less over time and it is rather easy to fix. How did you get such crisp photos & lighting? Any templates?

Yes, we don't have to be too hard on a replica box, the photo was taken on a mobile phone that happened to coincide with a nice day!
