Yes I will upgrade both the engraving depth and the angle of the cutter. Also I will try to find a way to transfer a HD photo in to the small brass templates I can use in the pantograph engraving machine. As for now those engravings is made by handwriting and no support.
I will also increase the slope and hight of the plexi insert closest to the crystal to get some more depth to it.
maybe it’s easier to cast it in epoxy but I’m a machinist and like to do it the hard way ????
You can do the nickel plating very easily by yourself , there are diy kits out there, i have done this 20 years ago with some smaller parts of my pre-war car and it worked fine. Copper and gold plating are easy too. Only chrome is too difficult for doing at home. I have a question: what do you use for vintage looking lume? Something which is a regular product?
Some new pictures. I’ve relumed the dial so it will have that 3D effect. I used normal super luminova and added a tiny bit of my girlfriends makeup (bronze powder) to get the cream color. After the dial I used the left over to fill the custom insert. Some of the engravings is quite bad so next version will be better. The triangle, 2, 4, 6 and 8 is ok the rest will need an update.
As I didn’t got the red and blue paint yet I will use the rep insert for now. I also use the custom made Stainless Steel bezel for now as I’m going to send 2 of the brass bezels to be chromed.
It also seems that the paint is bleeding through the lume on those places where it’s not deep enough. For next version I will seal the lume with some clear varnish or coating first before the applying of the Pepsi colors.
santre22 : wow, great work on both! It unbelievable that you got to all this from scratch - outstanding. Looking forward to what’s next and more pics. Cheers to you
