Was experimental in all. Tried to create a "weathered" dial.. it's all so surprising.

Ingredients
Sea salt
Tea bag
Boiling water

Just mix and boil everything together. Pour over dial that u want to expose.
I did it on the hands soaked in
and dial outer areas only..
Left it for 1-2 hours room temp at 24 degrees...

sounds like it might even taste good !

Serious question though......... would this be chacteristic of a watch that was sealed properly, or one that leaked?

Gottcha.......

One more question.... you dont see any problem with using the salt inside the watch case?

I mean salt is a very nasty corrosive, do you think it might have any negative effect on the movement (being inside a sealed container) with it?

It does look REALLY good though !

It's a cheap movement though. Just experimental. The salt is minimal dun think it will do any harm. Anyway who keeps a rep for long ?

This looks good Pratt! I would think the sea salt will crust and may start flaking? have you experienced this?

Also for tea you can use a small pinch of pu-erh tea or any similar black / red tea. Pu erh tea when left long enough will turn a shade of reddish black and could provide the shade you're looking for. Although Pu erh is available in different grades, you could use any.

Seems like Pu-er sounds good ! I have been using dilmah.. that's the only teabag I found left for ages though.. :)
As for the sea salt, the remains are minimal.. maybe the quantity I put was too little. :)

when seeping / making the tea, you will find it gets darker the longer you have it sit. Depending on quantity and water, it can look like espresso coffee if left too long

interested in seeing your progress with both the salt and tea!

I have thought about making a very concentrated saltwater solution and then spraying the dial...let it dry and then clearcoat with a matte spray.

I don't like the idea of inside damage
Time patina is great but inside damage that reveals uncareful use is too much for me
But of course you've already done excellent aging mods so why not exploring

Looks a lot like the gen foxing on some of my vintage units. Get some matte clear on it I reckon.

P,

For a better result and more natural look, lightly, 1000grit, sand you hands, then treat them. Results are amazing!
