Hey guys,

I just came across a great deal that seems to be too good to be true.
But as far as I can tell from the pictures, the watch looks genuine.
He even has the box and some papers, but doesn't seem to know a lot about watches.
I asked for some better pictures so as soon as I get them I will post them here too.

What do you think? Is this Sub gen? And if it is, what do you think is it worth?
Thanks a lot for looking!!

Well, papers can be bought on the bay ... The question is if the serial on the papers checks out with the serial markings on the watch (I think they are located behind the bracelet). The movement is another dead giveaway. Can he open it? Is it a deal over the net or face to face? It looks worn alot so that's a good thing. But generaly, a good rule is: if it's to good to be true, it probably isn't. If I didn't no s**t about watches, why would I own a Rolex? And why not do some research before selling it?

I hope more knowlegeble members can chime in.

Thank you for your help mate! It's a deal over the net and he lives pretty far away from me so meeting up would be a bit difficult. I will ask him if he can open the back or at least send me a pic of the serial number, since he doesn't seem very knowledgeable with watches.

If he isn't he will probably not get the bracelet off. If he does get it off, he knows more than he says. How much is he asking?

Only 660€ so I am very tempted to give it a try! He is selling it for his dad and he can't get the bracelet off.

Yeah, if it's in in fact gen it's probably worth at least €3500. But wait for other members to give their thoughts on it. You should ask for more detailed pics of it.

I did but he said his dad already packed it so he can't take other photos. I know it sounds fishy but I kind of believe him.
By the way I very much appreciate your help and knowledge!

So a 4 hour drive then =) Man, I understand why you are tempted to pull the trigger. Why don't you suggest you collect it instead of him shipping it, kinda call his bluff?

That's a good idea! I will ask him tomorrow.. maybe I could also insist to have more pictures taken and I will therefore pay a bit more for the new packaging material haha. If there isn't a problem with the watch he shouldn't have a problem with that in my opinion.
Anyways from talking to him he seems legit so I can feel how I my attitude is slowly changing to - I should just risk it :D

I have been scammed over the internet and the guy seemed totally legit but he didn't even exist (he had ID and phone number etc..). Good thieves are skilled liars. Wait until tomorrow and more might have read this thread. If it's all good and you buy it, and later decide to sell it, I'll buy it from you for 2k in a heartbeat ;)

I'd want to see the following. If all 3 of those are met and you live in the same country you might be ok to proceed. Someone not willing to opening a box for pictures sounds like a scam. He could have got these pictures from the net and not actually have a watch. For that price I would drive to his house and look at it person ASAP.

1 - serial number matches paper work
2 - bracelet code and compare with years made with serial number
3 - absolutely never buy without a movement picture

Thank you. Right now I don't have the time to drive to him and take a look at the watch.
But I asked him again to take better pictures of the watch, movement, serial number and all the paperwork. The paperwork looks as if the watch was bought in France but his father isn't the first one owning that watch so I probably won't find out much more about that.

How much do you make? If it is legit you could make $3500-4000 in a day. I'd drop everything and go look because someone else is gunna scoup it up if legit.

I am a student so I pretty much make zero haha.
I know. That's why I am also willing to take the risk and be able to resell it at a much better price.

You should not take any risk. Buy it as gen or don't buy it at all.
