Re: Review of BREITLING NAVITIMER "SERIE SPECIALE"

Great job! I too shared the same reluctance, but over time the Navitimer really intrigued me. My real turning point was when John Travolta modeled this Breitling in one of the Pilot rags. His looked great with the black face and matching black leather bracelet. So I made the plunge and bought one from one of our dealers here. It ran for a week, and then, my worse fears with these Asian movements came true, it died. Currently it is off for repair and I have high hopes that I too can get more "time" with this one!

Excellent review!
In the 70ties I bought just one of those "in the flesh" had no idea what it was . Neglected same for many years. Needless to say it froze and nobody has been able to repair the watch.
Now that I read your review, I must get one.

New 'Old Navitimer' 7750 - looks great, but is it improved??

Hi guys
I recv'd my Fighters Edition a couple of days ago, and was blown away with how accurate it looks compared with my older version of '2005' Navitimer with 7753.

Obviously it never came with the merchandise....

My older '2005' Navitimer - actually about 9mths old. Not self winding anymore...but otherwise ok.

Gotta get rid of the polish and silver hands...
S5001029.jpg

Straight away it looks right, it has got rid of the 'silvery' subdials, the black dial paint is a deeper Jet black rather than the slightly grey tone of the 7753 'timer. IMHO, an altogether more 'improved' appearance, but is it just superficial??

I now find myself removing the movt from the case, in preparation of colouring the register needles and brushing the bright work.

Compare the satin finish of the 7750, with the ground finish of the 7753 below. My genuine Breitling ETA 7750 also has a satin finish and no logo on the rotor.

Now I've carefully coloured the hands with a fine tipped permanent marker. I believe that the Old 'timer had deep blue hands, but I think I prefer black. Notice how the dials are now countersunk and matte silver/white. The slide rule text is silver, mimicing the genuine dial. Also, the slide rule bezel text is slightly heavier and more legible, but still not lining up completely.

After a bit of dismantling and brushing, here we are

Unfortunately, I dropped the watch on the (carpeted) floor and now it won't reset on the Chrono! :x  I was hoping it'd be more reliable than that.
My repair man will have to take a look at it, or maybe I'll try to 'make' the hands fit on the ETA movt. Watch this space...! 8)
