REPS ARE COOL, BUT I'D LIKE TO SEE EM REPLICATE ONE OF THESE

Sure, reps are cool, but I'd like to see 'em replicate one of these:

CITIZEN ECO-DRIVE BL5290-59E

BL5290-59E.jpg

I'm sure youre thinking "Huh? WTF are you on about?!" [smilie=confused1.gif] Well, the Eco-drive range of watches run on solar power!

I know that this technology is not new, but I only just recently found out what 'Eco-drive' watches are! The watch above has a quartz chronograph movement that is powered with a rechargeable battery which is charged from any light source.

Ive had 2 rep watches and i was considering buying another, (BTW, one of my reps is dead [smilie=angel12.gif] and the other is falling apart after a month) but i thought "screw that, im better off buying a gen watch as i know what im getting, i know its quality and i know its covered by a warranty.

In the case of the above watch, it has a 5 year warranty and im paying only $599 AUD and its RRP is $650 AUD... The rep i was looking to buy would have cost me around $400 AUD (i was going to get my 3rd Rolex Daytona rep with 7750 movement but heard too much bad feedback on them so decided against it.)

I L [smilie=love9.gif]VE the look of the daytona, especially the latest model.. and im sure i'll get one in the future, but only when the movements are reliable and will last years.....

I don't see the real purpose of this thread, lol sorry. :p Basically you're just saying buying a gen is better than buying a rep which is true, except when talking fashion brands like citizen, fossil, etc. The Eco drives are excellent watches, but I'd rather get a rep over a Citizen anytime, but that's just me. And good choice on the Daytona, the seconds at 6 is a huge issue on the movement and is better to avoid it until improved.

In the case of this Citizen model I don't like it much though, mineral crystal, basic quartz chrono with GMT... besides the perpetual calendar it's the same as the Miyota quartz movement on reps... check out this Bvlgari rep for $108 w/coupon:

if thats the watch you want, dont hesitate to buy it.
i think its a little overpriced for what you get but
you have to judge for yourself.

Personally I wouldn't touch any brand endorsed by Eli Manning. But hey that's just me.
BTW there are reps of these, but they are not offered by the dealers here. I bet it wouldn't be hard at all to purchase a rep eco-drive off ebay.

Someone once, twice, a gazillion times asked why would you buy a rep vs a gen? One of my answers to that is with today's technology many reps far exceed the quality of a Seiko or Citizen when it comes to attention to detail. Even if a rep has a minor technical flaw, if you weren't aware that it wasn't accurate, it could still be argued that the quality of the detail was very good. In my opinion, most of the "quality" fashion watches can't touch the beauty of a very good rep. I agree there are some fashion gens that look nice, but it seems to me that they're like the Neon's of the world, meant to satisfy the taste of the hoards vs the discriminating aficionado. I believe that if Seiko or Citizen tried to make a replica watch, it would be laughed off the forum...

I guess I am one of the lucky ones. I have not had a minute (no pun intended) of trouble with any of my reps. I have a couple of new ones (DSSD, SOSF) but most are at least 3 years old. I also have one that I have had at least 7 years that has never given me any trouble (not one of my reps has ever been serviced).

To each his own, I will take a rep over a Seiko any day of the week.

Hey, don't get me wrong, i'd KILL for a good daytona rep, but im way too picky with their faults. i want a 2008-2009 "white gold" daytona with silver face.. they are sooooo nice!! if anyone could help me get one that would be great. i know watch eden sell one, but it has the wrong clasp!! it has the old one.. grrrrrrrrrr. oh i did wear my reps everyday to work and all, and i work in a bottleshop so they got a fair flogging

If you ask Tony realy nicely he may well change that clasp for you. Also see what D4M here can do or Chris at eurotimez.

What reps did you kill so quickly and where did you buy them? They realy are quite tough. The final report on the torture test noob will be out in a few weeks. Wait and see what that has been thru over the last year.

You could allways follow the link in my sig and donate from 5bucks and try to win a Eurotimez or Fakey submarriner!

I'd keep looking. there are nicer gens around for the money if you realy want to go that way. That would allmost buy a Kalisnikov Justice for example.

Or allmost anything from Werner: http://www.wernersflyingwatches.com/default.asp
Or perhaps something from Russia 2 All: http://www.russia2all.com/ there's dozens there. How about a Chase-durer? This one for example.

That's the Made in USA brand I was trying to think of the other night Fakey.

I respect your point of view, but coming on a rep forum telling us how much you prefer gens is as useful as tits on a bull.

You obviously had some bad luck with reps in the past. Wonder what they were and were you sourced them from. I don't think I've ever had a rep fail on me. Not once, in years. Granted, I had a few DOAs, but that's a different story...

Trust me on this: once you get a few nice "super"-reps the only problem you'll likely have is deciding which one to wear in the morning. Then you'll grasp the attraction of this hobby. Or maybe I shouldn't tell you that and save you a lot of trouble.

The Ecodrive system is interesting and original, exactly as the Kinetic concept of Seiko is. But you won't see such movements in a rep (as you won't see a Seiko automatic movement).
So once you withdrawed the engine of these watches, I feel they are less interesting.

The second problem is the price : repping a 500 to 600 USD watch won't convince many potential buyers who probably can afford the gen.

I've seen nice Citizen models, but if I had to go for them, I'd go gen of course.

i bought two daytonas from 'hshopping' who have now disappeared from the face of the earth.. they were a good supplier up until then! the 1st rep i had (daytona) lasted me around a year, i did wear it every day and never had it serviced. it had an automatic japan movement, thats all it said about it. its time-keeping got worse and worse then one day it wouldnt work, it was as if it was jammed. i played with the manual wind and shook it, and it would work again for 1-5 mins, but that was it.

dpyers911 is a new member and steered me towards a dealer thats not on your list which i did look at, but didnt even consider buying from..

@trailboss99:
do you have a link to a photo of en ebel discovery? i looked on watcheden but dont think they have any

megaditto on the chase durer call ,

citizen makes like two great dive watches but by the end of the day you own a citizen. I have the firestorm and its by far a very very well made and extremely comfortable watch . Not the same style just saying the company makes great watches , swiss made , good movements and stand behind anything they make , and hell they actually send them in a really nice wood boxes go firgure. and you can find decent deals on them from time to time at dumpy magoos i.e shopnbc

you can also find ohhhhhhh about 3000 models from invicta with that look as well

best of luck bro !
