HK beat me to it. As crazy as it sounds he is correct. Go on, try buying a Rolex on da bay and importing it into the US, you MAY get lucky or you may just end up forfiting a 5 grand+ watch . . .

So much for the Land of the Free.

I fly international pretty often but I have never worried about this issue - but then again I don't travel with a bunch of watches (reps or gen) in my luggage; I usually wear one watch for my entire trip.

I am going to Thailand next month and I did want to pick up some reps.....Hmmm, maybe I will have to mail them back to the states with the assistance of someone who knows how to get them shipped without arousing any suspicions from customs.

That is just a song. Reality is monopolies and profit maximizing at any cost.

Back in the early 90ies I hauled 10 -15 watches from Thailand in one go without any problems. That was before they started screening your luggage.

Just slap one on each of the kids. Might have to glue the subs on the toddlers but it shouldn't look too out of place.

Being a UK citizen and going thru too many airports in the last few years I have the following comment.

If you go through Dallas Texas or LAX and you are not a US citizen they search you more than US citizens ( or at least they did me, I am white and not an ethnic so I guess its just non US citizens) if you are wearing the watch things will be fine, but I went thru Dallas and had a new Rolex GMT that I had got from Galeria in Dallas, and they even questioned that as to its authenticity as it was in my carry on bag and spotted it.

I produced a receipt with state tax paid and all was good

If you are made to take of the watch DON'T.. tell them it is worth 5k or 10 k whatever the real deal is and insist it stays with you tell them tell them if it gets lost you going to pay , first as it wont get snagged that way second they cant look at it too close .

I never take of my watch while going thru the door of security, they are asking me to do so more often now but that is where the problem will come, you only need some enthusiast to see that its not real and pick it up . My understanding is that the US is worst for this, the UK is not so bad and in ASIA they will sell you a replica if they could.

OF course if you are wearing a really shit replica you deserve to have it taken in any event :)

You say that you do a lot of travelling and go through quite a few airports, yet you say you should refuse to remove your watch if asked to by airport security.

If you really do travel a lot, especially internationally, you should be well aware that you have practically ZERO rights when dealing with customs and airport officials. If you are not a citizen of the country that you happen to be in (and most of the time, even if you are) and you refuse to follow the instructions of an official, it's "anal cavity search time".

So for those thinking this is sound advice, think again. The moment you start quoting prices and demonstrating a distrust of the local authorities, you have just become the target for an official to blow some steam off and show you just how meaningless it is to be rich without connections.

International airports are "Ports of Entry". So, even if you are a US citizen at a US International Airport you basically have no 4th Amendment rights. It would be similar to comming into the country at the Mexico or Canadian borders.

US Ports of Entry = Zero privacy or search rights. (can't speak for other countries - but I imagine they are even worse). So, you can get the KY treatment any time a minimum wage guy with a patch on his sleave thinks you should. :screwed:

This is an old thread but I thought I'd revitalise it rather than creating a new one.

Are there any changes to the suggestions above? I've always took my watch, belt etc. off and put it through the scanner with my phone, wallet and anything else in my pockets. I plan on travelling with my rep Breit on when I go on holiday. Is this a bad idea?

No this still has to be false. I would never think they would say anything about it on your wrist maybe if you had carry on loaded with Rolexes leaving or coming in from China  I just got back from Mexico about a week ago no problems with my Sub going and returning. I don't even bother taking it off.

Wow I hope they just pulled a pic of a random Rolex off the net. Thats definitely not a 80k Rolex not a two tone date just at least maybe a new platinum day- date with some added bling

Let me tell you Armatures how I get through Air Port customs with a suitcase full of reps...

I load up my suitcase with no more than 25 rep Rollies and 4 "family sized" bottles of KY Jelly.

I make sure to ALWAYS wear the Gaytona when flying.

Blow a kiss and a wink at the customs guy and ask if I can volunteer for the cavity search....

They seem to rush me through without any questions every time.

I just was on a flight from Boston to Philly. I had my watch on and went through the full body scanner with my watch on which promts them to automatically look at it. I had on my Milgauss on Nato......... the agent said " I really like that watch band" then as he flipped over my wrist he said "Wow! really nice Rolex....I didn't realize that's what it was on that band" .......... so to answer the question from my experience I have never had a problem. I fly weekly and I am always wearing a rep Rolex or PO.

Airport security shouldn't ever be a problem if you're not crossing a border and going through customs. If you go through customs it might be a different story, but I've had a pretty cool experience with that too. About 11 years ago on my way back from Europe, customs open my suitcase and saw about 10 reps I picked up for between $10-$20 each. The agent asked me where I bought them and how much I spent, I answered, and he shrugged and said "good deal" and moved on. Of course, they were pretty awful reps, but that was way before I found RWI.

I've travelled plenty of times with a 5-watch travel case and I've never been questioned or even looked at twice. I could only see a problem if you're travelling with multiple Panerai watches. They all look the same. ;)

Not an issue with domestic travel. I'm waiting for a flight as I type this, and I just walked through security with 4 reps in my backpack and one on my wrist. They do not care.

I live in the UK. Generally every time I fly it is outside my own country - meaning I pass airport security and customs. I was asking with relation to travelling across borders in Europe.

You will have no issues. Do you think they'd confiscate a fake M&S belt? How would they know and how would they prove it?

It is not part of Airport Security's remit to look out for replica watches or replica anything else. All they are concerned about is finding anything which could be a danger to an aircraft or passengers.

All customs care about is trying to catch you for duty on new items, so a watch on your wrist is exempt, providing you haven't got the box and receipt in your bag!

Don't worry about it

This thread is funny. I fly all the time with reps. I've flown with gens as well. The most I've ever gotten is " nice watch ". Those of you that fly often in the US , know that most air travelers wear nice time pieces.
