Hadn't seen that before, thank you for sharing.

Likely alot of the info is all here & may be that some of the info there is a little out of date, haven't gone through it in its entirety, but from a quick scan it is a nice guide for reps & the more information all members have, the more informed decisions they can make.

💪

Yep, it's actually fairly exhaustive, and udpated in june 2023 it seems.
TDs on the list are more or less known by everyone (not trusted on every forum) and for reference RWI's TD section is linked.
Interesting read.

It's a guide from Reptime, updated in August...

So I just came across this today. It confirmed my datejust clean order. I was going to order a submariner and was thinking CLEAN. But the guide says best sub is VSF. Does this sound right? Also, should I but putting Deep crystal on any Rolex Rep I buy? Is this rule of thumb for Rolex REP's? Ordered a Clean datejust (first rep purchase) and did a deep crystal. Did I make a mistake?

Thanks,

Roveer

It looks like it’s the amalgamation of several pages and posts from RepTime and RepTimeServices. At least two of the sections are direct copy & paste versions of posts I wrote for RepTime (the beginners’ guides to rep movements). The info from those two guides are now at least a year out of date unfortunately. While I’ve updated the original posts (and the version that’s posted here) whoever is running the wiki at the link above isn’t syncing changes.

Still not a bad resource, for now. But expect its value to erode over the next few years as information in the linked wiki gets out of date.

Do you see a difference between the deep and the normal crystal ?

I have not received the first order at this point so I have no reference. I remember reading that a lot of people did the deep crystal upgrade and was trying to get an idea if it was something most people did. I think it adds 68 bucks to the cost (at least from the TD I'm using currently). Still trying to figure out of VSF is way to go for submariner and whether I should be adding deep crystal to that watch.

It does seem a bit difficult to weed through all the data that I find in posts. It takes a certain amount of intuition to know what is the best route on certain things. I constantly have to make sure I check dates on some of the things I read as things to tend to change as time goes on. That being said I've been having fun learning about this whole thing while I wait for my first watch to arrive. It's really sketchy once it comes to the shipping process. Hopefully it all works out.

If you don't need to bring it to a watchsmith to set the deep crystal, it can be interesting. I thought you had to send it to a modder... Prof crystal and deep crystal are the same product ?

The shipping process can take 3 weeks but the most important is to receive it 🙂

Don't know about prof vs deep, but I had been reading that many did deep. When I order deep crystal at time of purchase TD takes care of installing. I got QC photo's of before, crystal and after. Yes, the shipping process is the most stressful part of the entire process. QC Photo's of my first order were impressive. Now I'm just praying that I actually receive it.

Just for clarification. Prof's crystals are not deep.
Totally different crystals, processes and coating formulas
Can we see the difference on a picture between them ?

It's not even close. Deep is knock off of a rep crystal. Pointless to spend any money on it.
If I understand, Prof crystal could be interesting. But it's not worth spending money on a deep crystal ? Is it right ?

I wouldn't. Zero improvement over the best ones from the factory right now.

There are a lot of what we call "high margin" upgrades being offered by dealers these days. It's all an upsell to get more money. It's a business, so I understand why they do it. But as a consumer, they are all pointless and things you can do cheaper on your own. I'm sure most of the senior members here will echo this.

Thank you for the advice ! As long as I can tell the time, I will keep my factory crystal :)
