I appreciate all the input. I guess I was hoping for someone to convince me to buy the $3500 PAM000. Seems that most people here wouldn’t go that route.
I was once in a similar situation, the Omega Seamaster Pro was the watch that calling me. The rep Omega SMP quality was spotty, there were too many flaws and it's very difficult to find parts. Back then the rep was selling for about less than $300 for a A2824 version, it can be improved if the sapphire glass was sent for AR coating and the bezel insert replaced with gen.
The decision to get the gen was easy, there's no decent Omega SMP in the rep market and the gen can be had for less than $3k. It's running strong and now a classic, I probably would've regret it if I didn't.
Another case now, my favorite watch to wear is the noob PAM177, the factories has stopped selling this rep for quite some time, and getting replacement titanium parts is challenging. If the PAM177 breaks and I can't get another rep in the M2M, will i consider buying the gen for around the same price as the PAM000?
Hell yes, definitely!
Do you like the PAM000 so much that you'd get the gen and wear it almost everyday? If yes, then go for it. We only live once to hesitate so much to do things that will make us happy.
