Buy a cheap JKF watch or an Aliexpress homage to cut your teeth on doing this stuff. There are guides out there. If you bungle the aliexpress/JKF modding then you know maybe you'll have to find a modder to do it for you. There are guides out there. Good luck.
In a more ideal situation, sure I wouldn't mind experimenting myself. But as it stands, would rather have someone show me how it's done properly the first time, and I can always strive to emulate them in the future.

I had a local watch smith perform a similar surgical operation on my 116520 Daytona:

How much did it cost? How do the sides look?

I tried to take pictures - but I only have artificial light available right now…

It is a tad “flatter” compared to the other side. At the same time, lugs are also slimmer here…

@Fabulously looks great. What is and where did you source the watch? Love the bakelite bezel!
Thanks!

I got inspired by "Project X" - their website went down sometime earlier this year, but some info is still online:

You can also try to check it out via the WayBackMachine: https://web.archive.org/web/20131201000000*/www.projectxdesigns.com

The base watch is a Clean 116520 Daytona (black dial - but that doesn't really matter). I ordered a custom dial from JJ Watchparts and they also had a matching vintage style bakelite bezel. My watch smiths took care of the case shape and brushing :)

Come on fellers, this is not a difficult task.
Grinding knife bevels by hand, now that's a chore, about an hour a side.

Two words, "bench grinder".....
You can get a cheapo from home dispshit for peanuts.

Remove the crown tube and grind 95% of the guards away(takes less than 5 minutes), dip in water frequently to avoid excessive heat, finish up with your files, then wetsand at 100, 150, 220, 400, 800, 1000, 2000, 3000, rouge and then lastly sapphire on buffer wheel, done.

I did this for a tudor case a while back for a thiccc cased big crown sort of deal.

Now, I'm considering doing this bead blasted bpsd to go for the project x/stealth sub look.
