Hey there,

I am exploring a Tempus Machina 216a project and looking for a modder (NA-based, preferably) who could do extensive casework to a 114060 case:
  1. Eliminate Crown Guards completely
  2. Shave down lugs and add chamfered edges
  3. Drill lug holes
  4. Replace crown / tube
This is extensive work -- does this even make sense? Is it worth pursuing? Any other alternatives? My fear is that it's too much to ask.
My other option is to buy a rep 216a and just have someone shave down the lugs and add chamfers.

Thanks in advance.

You're gonna need someone with a milling machine and good machinists skills, or a CNC machine with someone who knows how to M-code/using manufacturing software to create it to remove the crown guards. It's alot of material to remove.

This sounds like a stupid project that I would try 🤣 if in EU

case work is only part of it. You also need to machine coin edge on the bezel

I thought GF had made a rep? 🤔

This was my first attempt at removing crown guards on a GMT case....hand file followed by wet and dry sandpaper....
It's not as hard as you'd think, but my next effort will be better for sure...this needed more polishing to remove the final scuffs.

How long did that take you? It must have taken at least 24 hours of straight filing

@Reaps - only a morning's work and some very sore thumbs after polishing with wet and dry.
Good job. I know for a fact that must have been very very painful. It looks good too. The reason I suggest a machinist or jig is knowing how clumsy I am I wouldn't make it symmetrical - which would bug the shit out of me lol

A belt sander or a disc sander would be the appropriate home tool, this would ensure default symmetry

That said, you can do that with tungsten carbide metal working bits and a dremel on workstation, at least for the mass removal

Then finish with usual flap drum

This would need stable hands and a good eye

BTW: @Nikz19 did this mod for me.

What exactly was done here and how much did he charge? It looks great!

And yes -- have considered buying it OOTB as well (mentioned in my initial post). But just scoping out options as I'd like to Franken this a bit.

Thanks, I like the GMT a lot more like this. It suits my small wrist far better than the rather bulky original design.

PMed you regarding the costs.

I can use a good old metal file to do this without breaking a sweat, but then the polishing is more difficult than filing.

Thanks everyone. It sounds like of the 4 tasks I listed, the crownguard elimination may not be the most economical or practical case mod.
If that is the case...

What if I just wanted to primarily do the other things (shave lugs, re-do chamfer, drill lug holes, install new case tube/crown) -- any modder recommendations there?

Buy a cheap JKF watch or an Aliexpress homage to cut your teeth on doing this stuff. There are guides out there. If you bungle the aliexpress/JKF modding then you know maybe you'll have to find a modder to do it for you. There are guides out there. Good luck.
