It has been a while!
I thought I'd do another keyless tutorial. This time an APS 3120 I have on my bench for a service and gen dial install.
You can also use this tutorial to install a gen dial.

This 3120 clone is fairly easy to work on due to the design from AP. In this tutorial you will notice there are no springs under tension (apart from the setting leaver jumper but that is screwed down). However, the screws for this movement are tiny so be really careful! Use a decent set of dressed tweezers and make sure every screw goes straight into a parts tray.

lets start..

Flip the case over and remove the screws. These hold the front bezel on. I use a tiny bit of plastic to cover the screws, I don't really need to because I ensure my screwdrivers fit perfectly but it only takes a second to do and it will ensure you don't scratch the polished screws. (You may notice the rotor is already removed as I have inspected this watch before taking pictures for this tutorial).

Remove the screws and place them in a parts tray

Remove the 2 screws holding the rotor in place

Be careful as you turn the case as the bezel is now loose.
Turn the hands to 12.
Remove the bezel. Due to hands now being exposed i will remove them next.
I use a dial protector and a piece of plastic to cover the hands and dial and remove all 3 together with a set of levers.

Place the stem in the winding position (I've always done it this way without a problem, lots of threads online about this topic). Unscrew the setting lever screw, remove the stem and then tighten the screw again.

Once the stem has been removed you can push the movement through the front of the case.
Notice the tape at 2 and 8!
Remove the dial, you will find some small screws at 11 and 7

To remove the DW turn the 3 tabs. Also note the position of the spring on the date lever (green arrow).

Remove the motion works cover plate screws.

Remove the motion works, remember the order you remove them in. Look at the red arrow, in this movement there is a loose extra screw!

Now you can remove the keyless.
Loosen the set lever screw on the balance side and remove the set lever. If you are following this tutorial because you have a keyless issue you may not need to remove anymore parts. check the setting lever is seated correctly, if it is not loosen the screw on the balance side and reset it. Check the yoke is seated in the sliding pinion (see below).

Remove the setting lever jumper (green) and yoke (blue)

Next remove the intermediate date corrector wheel and the date corrector (blue) and the intermediate wheel (green)

Now you are left with the winding pinion and sliding pinion with the stem pushed through them. If these parts fall out note the orientation of the sliding pinion, the teeth mesh with the winding pinion.

To rebuild

install the yoke (blue) so it is resting on the sliding pinion (orange) and then the setting lever (green)

Next install the setting lever jumper, you some peg wood to push it back slightly to allow the setting lever to seat correctly.
Check the keyless operates. (I missed taking a picture of this but you can see it below, refer to the removal process above to see the part labelled)

Install the quick set date corrector and intermediate wheel

Now you can test the keyless in all 3 positions.

Install the motion works
Set the spring on the date lever (green)
Ensure the spring for the quick set date (orange) is in the correct position.
Place on the motion work cover plate lining up the jewels. Gently press down and turn the crown in the time setting position to check all the pinions are seated correctly.
Install the 3 screws for the motion works cover plate.
Hold the set spring in and drop in the DW (green)
Turn the 3 tabs to hold the DW in place (blue).

Now install the dial and hands.
Re-case the movement the same way it came out.
The alignment needs to be spot on as you drop the movement into the case as you wont be able to align the stem due to the factory using tape rather than tabs.
Place the bezel on. You can tape up the front to keep the bezel screws in place as you turn it over. They can also move when screwing down the caseback screws.
(Quick picture i have without the hands being installed, i pressure test the case with movement installed after cleaning it and replacing all the O-rings).

Install the rotor, give the watch a wind as you seat it on.

Few more pictures to finish the service
Case gaskets replaced,
Vacuum/pressure test - 5 bar due to the friction fit of the crystal..
Hands and gen dial installed.

Thanks for your time and effort!

This is great info and goes straight into my private collection of helpful tutorials.

Sometimes it's the little things. Taping up the front to keep the bezel screws in place. Makes me feel kinda stupid, why did I not think of that and had such a hard time putting an AP together.

Thanks for that tipp. Greatly appreciated.

Appreciate the tutorial and have a question… once you remove the 2 rotor screws, should the rotor be completely free and/or come right out?.. or is there a trick to remove it? Reason I ask is that I tried to pull the rotor off of my 15300 (in an attempt to clean and silence) and it’s not moving… I also tried pulling very lightly with tweezers from the side but it will not separate or detach. Any suggestions?

There are plenty of pics of a 3120 teardown on the thread below
