Gentlemen (and the one or two ladies)

I now am the proud owner of a 113 and a 111, both are excellent. My quandry is thus; WHICH PAM DO I GET NEXT?

My first thoughts have been the Pan/Rolex 6154 or the mighty 127, both from Davidsen, but would appreciate any advances from you guys (and gals)...

Cheers

@zarkon - the Ti option could well be in the running.. thank you. I'm still not sure about PVD models, they just don't quite seem right to me somehow...

3 months ago I didn't even know what a Panerai was though so I guess my opinion may yet change!

Check out the Panerai North Pole. I picked one up as a special order, and the person that ordered it vanished. As I was in the process fo putting it up for sale, it ended up on my wrist, and has been there ever since! (LOL) The blue dial is really a nice departure from the norm. I would post some pictures, but I'm at work and the iPrism does not let me get to my Photobucket.

Just Google it. The rep is VERY faithful to the org.

Do you have any other watches that are 45mm or larger? What size are your wrists? A lot of people don't really grasp how big the Fiddy is, with its 47mm case, domed crystal and substantial CG.

A Ti or a Submersible model would also fill a "gap" in your collection nicely. The PVD can wait until you're in the advanced stages of PAMitis.

I've owned a couple of 47mm watches and sold all but one, my 47mm Radiomir-style. Even with 7.5" wrists, I think 47mm watches with CGs are borderline too big for me. That's just MO, though.

So, a 177/176 in Ti would be a good choice, perhaps DSN's 082 in Ti. Or, you could go with a 024 Submersible or a 243 Sub. I understand the 243 wears a bit bigger than a "normal" 44mm PAM due to its increased thickness.

Good luck!

If your wrist size allows, a 127 from david will be a great choice. Grab it before the Swiss movement is gone.
Otherwise, stick to 44mm PAM. Dare to venture to modern PAM? If yes, go for 186GMT "Ultimate" or a 252GMT "Ultimate"...

My preference lies with the more simple pieces HOWEVER; having just checked the North Pole out, it's growing on me!

Can I please ask, Mr. WBK, does the rep have any water resistance or is it normal case of 'enjoy it out of water and don't tempt fate...'?

Secondly, would you recommend a supplier? Davidsen is my preferred thus far into my 'PANitis' but I think I am right in saying he doesn't get involved with submersible models..

I would buy a 183.

I like this a lot but am not sure when it would get worn over the 111 as they're quite similar...

My 111 is on a bracelet though so could have the 183 on a nice strap i suppose.

I live less than five minutes walk from a Panerai AD and I believe they have this in the window so may have to take a little look tonight...

Thanks

By 'modern' do you mean the busier dials and thicker bezels? Please excuse my lack of knowledge - I'm still a relative noob!

I have a 7.5" wrist and am 6'4" so reckon I could pull of a 47mm quite well - the 127 is still on my 'to buy' list. There could well be a bulk order getting placed!

modern PAM is non historic line such as 2 models which I mentioned (186 and 252 North Pole). It can include 092, 024, 086 and many others.

Yes, that 252 is on my wish list as well.

I've got a 7.5" wrist and am 6'4" so reckon I could carry the 47mm off reasonably well... I do want to get a 127, if only for it to be my 'rite of passage', but it may be bumped a little down the list with all these other suggestions coming into the frame. Think I shall visit the AD tonight and try on a few 47s to get a feel for them.

I'm not sure I fancy a submersible model but the North Pole (mentioned above) is growing on me and I dare say that the longer I look at any PAM the more I like it! 'tis a dangerous game!

I already know somewhere (near my liver I think, lol) that I will get a Ti model or three at some point but my colleague has a 177 so don't want to rock up to work just yet with a matching timepiece, he'd hate me!

The PVDs can definitely wait though, still not feeling the love I'm afraid... PANitis is still in it's early stages though as you say. oh dear.

Cheers

Same here, Sam. 6'4", 225lbs and 7.5" wrists. Yet, I decided that 47mm is a little too big for me. Again, that's just me. I still have an MM20 in the collection, but I don't wear it very often. My 47mm Rad is the biggest I'll go for any sort of frequent/extended wear. There are folks on this site with 6.5" wrists that wear Fiddys, though, so to each his own.

Gotcha - thanks

Can anyone point out somewhere/someone that supplies submersible pams that are on a par with Davidsens regular ones? I'm obviously aware of the other collectors on the forum and am very familiar with the search button but get the impression that other suppliers lack lume/cannon pin/case guard etc... (basically all the things I choose Davidsen for)

I think I shall resolve this by visiting the AD and trying a 47mm on tonight... hopefully it will seem ok, worst case scenario, I shall stick to the 44mm models - hardly a bad option! lol

Just out of interest, do you favour any other brands too? Being a similarly built chap I am intrigued..

The big Omega PO is nice. I was worried that at 45.5mm it might seem a bit large, but it wears nicely. The 42mm version actually seems a bit small.

As far as reps go, I'm pretty much a one trick pony and stick to Panerai. Although, I have to admit I'm tempted constantly by the black dial Corum Admiral's Cup Competition. 48mm seems HUGE, though. I need to give one of those a test drive...

Other than that, the new Super Sea Dweller is also tempting. I've always been a fan of the SD and the no-date Submariner, I don't like cyclops'.

Maybe the original HBB, with the steel bezel and the black dial. I've never seen an HBB rep in real life, but no one has had a bad thing to say about them. The new HBB with the closed caseback is a nice option, as that was the one serious flaw -- the movement seen through the display case back.

Other than the Rolexes (Rolexei? Rolexu?), I've been eyeing the very same pieces - and the Chopard GT XL. funny huh? I also have a gen Seamaster Pro, a gen bvlgari bvlgari and a gen Raymond Weil Don Giovanni - none of them are cutting it size-wise after getting my PAMs though!

Think I may limit myself to two per month to keep it sensible and see where I end up.

Back onto PAMs, am quite liking the two daylight models (black and white) that Andrew stocks. They could well be going on the list to buy - will have a proper run through this evening and make some transactions happen...

Which Daylight models? The chronos?

yep - not really my thing as I like the old-school plain and simple models (hence the 111 and 113) BUT they just look 'right' - will take a closer look tonight and maybe get involved with a 7753 movement. Now white or black, that is the question.

Black. The 251 just doesn't look "right" to me. Now the 225 on the other hand.....

However it is HUGE and THICK. The 202 is probably a bit more accurate dial, the white looks cool, though.
