Real bronze on pure time?

Anyone know if these cases are real bronze? It looks to be the same as River's offering. New dial, some hand aging with a new strap would make this a nice vintage out of the box!

Nothing against Puretime here, they simply supply a demand, but a lot of effort went into developing bronze cases for PAM homages over on the Homage Forum and I think it is a bit disrespectful to their hard work that someone bought one and now is mass producing copies.

I understand the irony of saying this on a replica watch forum, however, the guys who undertook the hard work are selling the "genuine replicas" for not much more that the "replica replicas"!

Please pop over there and find one to keep the independant work going.

Look very closely at it. Is it exactly the same, or close to being the same. The chances of another factory managing to copy it exactly (remember this is reps we're talking about here!) is tiny. If it's exactly the same as the HF version then you have to accept that whoever is making these has decided to upscale production and sell outside of the original sales route.

No it's not identical and I'm sure the versions available on HF (and through a couple of TDs on here) are superior, but that's not really the point as far as I'm concerned.

A couple of guys spent a lot of time, effort and passion bringing these cases to the market place and then some douche ripped them off and started flogging them by the hundred.

Again, I do understand the irony of my irritation, however, the decent versions out there don't cost much more than the mass produced version so I'd just urge anyone in the market for one of these to look a bit further.

Also, to reiterate, nothing against Angus and Puretime, my annoyance is with the person who has knocked these out against the spirit of the work of those on HF.

He did just critisize. I agree with him... its really low when your ripping off the little folks. I spend a lot of time on the homage forums and those people have real dedication to our hobby. I really appreciate their hard work. I actually just recently purchases to brass/bronze cases from Legnos project.

I think it is a business problem. They should have copy righted their work, then no one could legally .... Wait... What the????

They forum group had to know it was a possibility once it began to sell. This is capitalism Chinese style. I just wish they would start doing the classics again, like a headwind. Or a glasshutte original ultimate. Or a really nice Unitas with no errors or painted jewels.

I know TB, to a certain extent it is stupid and totally hypocritical.

Suppose I just want people in the hobby to be able to get the best bang for their buck, and if the guys coming up with these kinds of pieces give up becasue they keep getting them ripped off (not forgetting that they are ripping them off in the first place!) then everyone will be worse off.

For instance, River sells a really nice version of this case with hands, movement and choice of dial for less than $300.

Rant over everyone one, I'm being a dick and know really that there is no difference in ripping off an individual or a 'faceless' big company.

I wouldnt say your being a dick. Your expressing your opinion. Some people can't handle other people challenging their views and they flip out.

The reason it bothers me is because a large company can take a hit from something like this but a smaller fellow like River... it may be devastating. I don't know if that is true for certain, but I would just hate to see such a large contributor to our hobby be put out.

A case set like this is a niche product anyway. I cant imagine that Rivers production runs far outstrip the MOQ that most case manufacturers would want. Even as a "mass" produced version it's unlikely to be a big seller. I think for the educated homage and rep builders they would still go for the accuracy and quality that the original River case set would provide. People who are unlikely to worry about tiny differences in the case dimensions will buy the mass produced copy.

Is it stealing some sales away from River, possibly. But on the other hand the vast majority of people are going to be unaware of his case set in the first place due to him being a niche and low volume seller (IMHO).
