Hi all, apart from custom vendors like AMF who can build custom 18k Rolex watches, does anyone know where I can source custom 18k gold cases? I want to buy 18k Rolex rose gold Daytona case set to build a 116515. I'm also thinking of building a YG yatch master or 116518 YG daytona. Factories like VSF and Clean has great blue prints for their daytona and submariner reps but its a pity they dont use the blueprint to build 18k reps. It may be due to the cost of gold and it's not worth risking losing all the gold in the event of a raid, or just risk-reward in general for them. Quite a pity that we are in the golden age of Rolex reps but no one is selling them in 18k real gold.
Another idea that crossed my mind would be to try and obtain the 3D image file that CF uses etc

Then approaching any high end CNC factory for a quote with the metal of your choice
I have made contact multiple times with CNC factories in China that do near anything if you can provide the 3D image file, however, normally this requires you to send a Gen spec watch to them to make the image, or send it to somewhere that does the image, then the next step is the CNC.
It's a process, but once done I'm sure it could be worked.
What's the the watch most people are always chasing? Clearly Daytona File is already readily available

I have many Gen watches pass thru my hands, if there is enough interest in a certain model I can always send it off for the 3D file work for all to enjoy

For that kind of money, I’d just get the gen.
When you start going solid gold builds and doing it properly, they don't end up being cheap, and when you weigh up the Pro's and Con's sometimes it is worth spending that extra $$$ to get it pre owned, full set, so at least when at re sale time again you won't lose to much money

For instance most PM Daytona you can get preowned for ~30k, send it to Rolex for $1500, and it will come back looking brand new.

Spending 10k on the rep is silly to only save a third of the cost, with difficult resale.

What currency are you quoting?
Impossible in AUD to get a full Gold Daytona for under 30k

yellow gold Daytona, white gold... under 30K? tell me where..

anyway the process of making a watch (or making it franken) also has that grace to enjoy the process of getting parts, create it to your liking choosing what to choose and what not....
my idea for a 116519, white gold case + all gen exterior, the day the movement fails you can always go for another one for 500-600.....

I assumed you meant USD. 7-10k AUD sounds a little better.

Why don't you contact AMF? I had a rose gold oyster band made by them for my Rolex rainbow (also made by them) and it looks perfect to me (though I'm no expert). I THINK it cost about $A10,000 but the weight gain was impressive.
OR is there someone who could make it for you in TUNGSTEN (AMF?) and then get it plated? The weight will be almost the same as real gold but I don't know how long the plating will last??
AMF have never let me down with the quality BUT they do take a while to get it done (allow 2 months).

Hey Mate, how did you go in your findings?
I can have any metal made with a 1:1 CNC , most common are yellow and rose gold, 18k solid and real 1:1, correct stampings but more importantly a 100% movement fit.
Obviously aren't cheap, for a Daytona Head, including back plate / bezel / Clasp in solid 18k YG you're looking at about 7500 USD there abouts.
Readily available, just not many people want to spend the $$
Be weary of sellers offering it much cheaper as well, many sellers will CNC them in 10k YG and run 18k stamping on them, so there profit margin is higher, all well and good until someone puts it in an XRF machine and that happy face turns into a big big upside down smile
7500 USD or AUD?

I always though something like a white gold 226659 that comes on a rubber strap might be worth building as you'd save a fortune not having to make the bracelet.

I talked about it the other day with a user, these cases/clasps are an important expense but you have a watch for life.

Maybe there is more market than we know, and we can one day compare prices - qualities, very interested in this post-information.
Just to understand. How exactly can the case be the determining factor for the watch being “for life” when (correct me if I’m wrong!) the movement determines the lifetime? Or am I missing something?

Try wearing a watch with no clasp and see how far it gets you

IMO a quality watch case is forever, and even more if we are talking about gold, it can be polished, gold plated again... even for the clasp.

Lifetime movement? It depends, I have seen high end watches that have had problems with their movements, do you see any Rolex GEN cases that have broken/split?

By "lifetime" I mean 50?60 years?

I’ve been looking into gold cases+bracelets lately, mainly for Rolex DD (18238/18038).

Prices are around $8-9k for case and bracelet alone (no movement etc).

Since a vintage gen gold DD is about $15k that’s a far better choice IMO. I’d say the same goes for Rolex DJ.

Just saw a sales post now of a sold gold Daytona, where seller payed about $8k for the case set alone (no bracelet). The Daytona could be more worth it since Gen is more expensive but IMO if you’ve reached over $10k for a rep it’s really time considering a Gen. That’s ofc just my preference.

There was a solid gold DD (Italian produced around 2000s) for sale recently at about $3-4k. I’d def consider buying in that range.

Absolutely, these people spending even over 5k on a rep are just deluded IMO. Much nicer gens can be had for that money.

10k for a fraud watch is just sad, get an equivalent 10k gen from any brand lol.
