the 1/10th caliper scale part isn't actually going to work properly in the rep though as far as i understand as the movement doesn't beat fast enough.

Yes, you do.
Measuring 1/10ths occur, when the big seconds hand is stopped. So, it has nothing to do with bph's of the movement. Besides, 99% of our chrono replicas have the same 28,800bph, as genuine watches.

OK, you're going to have to explain exactly what it is i'm missing then:

I get how the caliper on the genuine watch works, it's a gauge that translates the position of the second hand into something readable by the human eye, given that we cannot see 1 tenth of a second ourselves given the small scale we are talking about.

But the genuine movement is a 36,000 bph movement, which is 10 per second so that is actually possible. the 28,000 movement is 8 per second.

So explain to me how a movement that can only do 1/8th of a second can manage this feat?

Watch video in the post above. If you know, how to measure 1/10th of millimeter by caliper - you'll understand. It has absolutely nothing to do with bph's.

Surely it has everything to do with bph's,

the movement cannot do 10 beats per second, so cannot measure 1/10 of a second.

Luthier,
How did you get that watch with a black bezel? I have looked all over and only see the SS with a SS bezel?

OP, I'm not sure if he's just trying to pull your leg, but Luthier's version is the cheapest quartz version of this rep.

-Bezel uses a printed insert instead of an engraved metal bezel.
-Bridge and arc on the dial are metallic foil instead of solid metal.
-Wrong markings and text on the inner bezel caliper scale.
-Wrong subdial functions and markings.
-Wrong datewheel color and orientation.
-Wrong TAG logo.

On the gen, the chrono seconds hand sweeps in 1/10th second increments. These increments are too small to see with the naked eye, so the Caliper system magnifies them onto the much larger Caliper Scale for easy reading.

On Luthier's quartz rep, the chrono seconds hand moves in 1 second increments, so the readings on the Caliper Scale are meaningless.
