I have been looking at this forum for quite a while now and recently i decided i would become a member and start the hobby, so excuse me for being a 'noob'.
After a lot of research on different dealers and different watches this watch caught my eye, the rolex daytona 116520 white dial from http://puretime.co/product/daytona-116520-white-dial-2003-model-update/
After researching about daytona watches i encountered the second at 6 problem. Although I did not understand what this was very well. Does this 'second at 6' problem happen by itself or if you tamper with the chronograph? Could someone enlighten me by explaining what this problem is in basic terms?

Thanks

Those models have an extra gear..The A7750 movement needs this so as to display the secs as 6 genlike..But makes this movement unstable and ready to break..

p.s.
Some members have Daytonas running strong for years..If i liked the Daytona rep i would go fo it..but thats only me..

Never Never Land
Hi Blinin,

I am a noob aswell. Nice to meet you.

I have a daytona and have had it for some time actually.

I have not encountered any problems with it. It runs quite well. I had that specific one you are looking at many years ago and I had it on my wrist daily for a year solid. Never an issue with it. Perhaps I got lucky with it who knows.

I would be interested to hear what others have to say.

The seconds @6 reps are modified 7750 movments where gears are added to run the seconds at the 6 o'clock position (I believe). They are notoriously bad for failing, regardless of whether or not you 'tamper' with it.

Get a seconds @9, it will last a long time and you'll be happy with it. You could always just and freeze the dial @6 if its not already to look at bit more accurate.

Edit:

wow quicky replies.

yeah Tasty, i think thats fairly uncommon. But pretty awesome!

If you want it as accurate as possible and goes with the Sec@6, maybe you could have the watch serviced once in a few years...adding another jewel at the gear might help too.

I have one with seconds @ 6 and it quite the looker; however, from the time I first tried it on, the second hand hesitated and sputtered. It is really annoying, so it just sits in my drawer, but I have heard some good thing about them on this forum. I is just the luck of the draw...

Had mine for a couple of months but have not been wearing it as often and it seems fine without the second@6 hesitation, actually it goes pretty smooth...
The latest version might have less of a problem than the earlier batch maybe...

Yes certainly saw that. How long has it been running ? No problems I presume for sec@9. I've got the sec@6 black dial at 148$ fr Trevor. On its way here as we speak.
Just wondering which year did the Daytona became sec@6... Or the last year sec @9 was available ... For the gen

IMO, just go with the seconds @ 9 version and save yourself the potential hassles.

The gen exists in a seconds @ 9 version -- The movement is a Zenith, but those are older models. The seconds @ 6 are the most recent versions...I do think most people prefer the 6 over the 9 but you do have the problematic movement issue...

Hope this helps...

Yeah I searched and found a long discussion about Daytona's. I guess they all have there trade offs and none are perfect I might order the seconds9 since I want reliability.

Goodluck to you man! The first good sign of a bombproof Daytona is that when you open the package, the watch is already ticking.
