In reality, I think they are both FAIRLY reliable out of the box, It's just soooo much less hassle to get a NON-7750 fixed if there is a problem...

You're right. I've had success and failure with both. I've got a serviced 7750 on my wrist right now and it runs like a dream.

Service is a must imo but most people can't be bothered with the added expense.

.

Therein lies the main rub... Repair....

To me, these are all just disposable watches to begin with.

If I'm going to mod, I service the 7750 before I even take delivery, and prepare myself mentally and emotionally to buy a new movement, should the modded watch fail.

Regarding the 2836's, I had a trusted watch smith on this site, and my own local watch smith tell me it wasn't worth repairing the watches. He could do it, but it would cost me more money than to get another rep.

So IMHO, if they fail, either way you're screwed. The non-7750 has a better chance at being repaired, but in no way are the 7750's unreliable.

But also consider that gen swiss 7750's are fragile movements as well. I've seen a bunch of date wheels jammed on gen 7750's so I see your point with that.

I've long considered keeping a swiss 7750 in my watch parts box, just in case.... I almost did when the RWI group buy was happening from the ebay seller.

Good discussion, folks....

The gen Swiss 7750 is pretty solid providing you remember not to set the date during the danger zone. Many gen tags, breitlings and omega's just have a stock eta 7750 with no more modification than an engraved rotor. For my latest franken rather than pay the premium for a gen breitling cal 13 I just got a gen eta 7750 added a gen SA datewheel and a gen rotor. In real terms it is a cal 13 at a fraction of the cost.
