Sadly neither will make the tough choices necessary to;

Balance the budget
Pay down our debt
Return SS and Medicare to solvency

Unfortunately we've left quite a mess for my two sons (21 and 23). I'm ashamed that it happened on my generation's watch.

Ditto.

If you look at the history of the US, I'd say that slavery and discrimination in our past, are more embarrassing than not being able to balance a budget.

From a non ConUS POV - its scary that Romney even has a chance.
The whole right wing, religion and screw the poor, no health care for them, us rich guys are fine politics are mad.
Then again we have the twat Cameron.

The honest truth for his MA health care plan which Romney was hinting at but never said in fear of alienating voters in certain states

Is what works in Massachusetts cannot work the same in other states
MA has higher income than most states and had more insured to begin with

Their rich towns can help their poorer towns and end up fine
If the same principal is applied countrywide, you need rich states like MA to support poor states like MS
MA works as is but not with an excess to help other states

If applied state by state not all states could afford what MA was able to do with healthcare

Yup; especially right now can't tell any particular group you will cut funding or the population you will raise taxes or they will petition against you and you will lose the election
It is all a joke

Surely if a crappy country like ours can mangle together a free health care system then ought it not be easy for the far more affluent USA?
Not trying to have a go, I just can't see why it isn't a far more popular policy.

Maybe if started during prosperous times it would be more popular
Right now we have the highest unemployment since the depression
Most americans would prefer their family all have jobs over making sure everyone in the country has health care coverage
Forcing all employers to have coverage for all employees reduces new hires
In my opinion, nothing drives the economy like more jobs and jobs and the economy are #1 issue to undecided voters
Without healthcare emergency rooms still cannot deny service so it was not like people were dying on the streets pre Obama care
The health care system is still f'up a million different ways anyway so needs a total overhaul not just more covered by flawed plans

It seemed like Obama was debating with a moderate Democrat. Although Romney did a fine job, I wonder what the Tea Party base thought of their guy. He couldn't have been any more mainstream. Hell, if I didn't know any better, I'd probably vote for the lying c*cksucker.

As the pundits were saying before the debate: "I wonder which Romney will show up".

While the debate was entertaining for me at moments, nothing was talked about specifically.

Our leaders debate every day about everything. It's what they do for reals.

I'd love to see a north American debate. While your country is so much larger and more powerfull, you'd get whipped. ;)

Sorry Roger, but that makes no sense at all. In Ma, the rich town can help support the poorer towns, so why can't the richer states help the poorer states? Exact same theory and principle.

Also, it's exactly how all insurances work. You spread the risk to many so you can lower the cost to all.

The the Heritage Foundation, a Republican think tank came up with the original theory and plan for The Affordable Care Act - Obamacare, the Republicans were loving it. Especially Mitt Romney who used that plan successfully in Ma.

As soon as a Democratic President decided to implement this Republican plan, it became the absolute worst thing imaginable....

Not trying to have a go, I just can't see why it isn't a far more popular policy.

The reason is because some politicians have convinced a group of people that Healthcare is a luxury, that we do not need. They will gladly drop a Trillion on an F-22 that can't fly safely, but yell Socialism if we give a person Heart Surgery for free. It's very sad, because a lot of the peoople you see that are against it, do not have the level of Healthcare that I do.

And to add to BMW760's thoughts, I have what I consider to be some of the finest healthcare available for basically free at the Veteran's Administration. Although I'm sure it's not uniformly as good as here in WPB, but the VA has probably the most comprehensive and inexpensive health care provided anywhere in the world. I've often said we should copy our national healthcare system on the VA.

Basic healthcare and some level of preventive health care should be a right, not a privilege because when the emergency room is used in place of basic care, the costs are just passed on to the rest of the population anyway. And preventive medicine has been shown to be much more cost effective than having the less fortunate get gravely ill before they seek treatment, when $100 treatments can save thousands of dollars in later care.

My point has always been that Healthcare should not be a luxury. It should be something accesible to everyone, no matter what your income level is.

Phillip, you are truly wise beyond your years, regardless of what my opinion about the teledrama we watched might be

You know that I mean that sincerely, bud.

Thanks tommy! Means a lot. :)

I heard a great comment about the debate earlier...

It was like watching a salesman and a accountant debate.

Pretty much sums it up.
