Hi all, I am looking to get either a Portofino or Portofino Chrono. I did some comparisons on the different versions offered by the TDs.There are some points of consideration that I would like to seek some advice on.

Movement: A2824, A2892, Miyota, A7750 (Chrono)
For the portofino, they are offered in A2824, A2892, Miyota variants. I tried to youtube the movements but couldn't make good observations. May I ask which movement more closely mimics the gen - I am guessing the A2892. Are the A2824 and Miyota just as close?

Is the A7750 (Portofino Chrono) a dead giveaway compared to the gen movement?

Sunburst Dial: for those who have seen it, is it worth getting? http://www.intime.co/iwc/989-portofino-schaffhausen-blue-dial-ss-a2892-ultimate-version.html

AR: is it worth the extra cost in your opinion - i read that no one notices except with a side-by-side comparison. Thanks for your time! =)

2892 is perfect for the IWC Portofino
A7750 is not a giveaway at all.

AR is mandatory for IWC!!

AR is pretty noticeable, but you gotta consider whether it's really worth it to you to tack on the extra $150 or so to do so

^This. To OP, it depends on whether you are looking for a chrono version or not of the Portofino as for the classic Portofino, you might consider the one with A2892 or Miyota 9015. As for the chrono Portofino, you might wanna consider the older version of Portofino with A7750 inside it as it is very close to gen imho

Ask your TD whether the Miyota movements are gen. If they are in fact gen, I'd go with the Miyota because they're every bit as good as their Swiss counterparts and likely cleaner and more reliable than the Asian-Swiss clones. I've never heard of Miyota movement clones. Moreover, Miyota and Seiko movements are largely assembled by machines so you get a cleaner work environment and proper lubrication. You just never know with Asian-Swiss clones... though I've never had a problem with them. :)

I'd go with a portofino 2892 for the accuracy.
Considering both the 2892 and the 9015 oscillate at 28.8k bph, they would both have similar accuracy in controlled conditions. There should be no significant difference in attainable accuracy between the two. Moreover, both movements can be regulated to +/- 5 seconds/day or better with the aid of a timegrapher.

Where the Miyota has an advantage is a higher level of QC in the manufacturing process. As a consumer, the prudent thing to do would be to go with a gen Miyota over an Asian 2892 as Citizen has more stringent QC than [insert state-run Chinese firm]. As a result the probability of getting a more accurate movement is greater with the Miyota OOB.

BUT, if you're willing to service and regulate the watch, then it's a matter of personal preference.

Last not least..2892 version has a big advantage: you can go franken if you want, hands, date wheel and dial are a straight swap...different story for the miyota.
If you are after the most accurate Portofino, as mrjoe wrote, go for the 2892 version.
