Sounds like you're used to fixing things on your own, so this should be a relatively easy fix. Without being there, it sounds like the keyless works screwed up and needs to be reset by dismantling that part of the movement and resetting all the little levers back into the correct position. Sounds tough, but it's not that bad. I did it on a A2824 my very first time with very minimal tools and got it right. At worst, you're out $35 for a new movement.
