Plasma or LCD, then Which Brand?

Thanks the suggestions. Remember I want 1080P but no larger than 42. Du, I just purchased a Vizio 32in. from Sams and now I have 2 Vizio's from Sam's club and agree with you on Costco and Sam's service and warranty practices. On this purchase however I don't want to put all my eggs into Vizio and I want to stretch my boundaries into the digital world. I would consider a Pioneer or Pioneer elite if they had a 1080p 42in TV. Sure they might have a 1024X768 capable of displaying 1080p content but to me that's not 1080p. 120Hz is the way to go for LCD fauxchizzle. Still desperately seeking Susan or still in search mode.

I'm going to put my .02 in. I have a 32" Visio from Costco and the picture is fantastic especially for video games. My brother-in-law has a 42" Hitachi plasma and a 37" Visio and the Visio's picture smokes the Hitachi. The Visio is easy to set up, the instruction manual is top notch. I don't think you are missing much in picture quality by buying the Visio.

I bought a new 46" Samsung LCD. 120 mhz, 16 million colors, 1080p, extremly dark and rich blacks, no trails and it actually looks like you are looking through a window at live action. I looked at them all and this was better than plasma I saw. Bought an OPPO DVD player with HDMi output to the TV and it processes the standard DVD's output to near HD quality.

During the recent CES in Las Vegas, I had the chance to ask many qualified opinions from those in the business and they all said LCD over plasma. The LCD wil last longer and the picture quality is the same if not better depending on brand.

The issue with plasma is that in time the gasses which make the plasma TV function dissapate, and the image quality will become weaker.
This is why plasma is seeing a price drop now.

It is okay if you are going to get a new tv every couple of years. For me, longevity and quality rule.

Samsung or Sony for my vote for LCD.

i shopped around and eventually landed with sony. My friend has samsung and it is gorgeous too. The LG's and everything else to me was meh.

Pioneer Elite for the Plasma, and if you dont have that money, then go for the new Panasonic Vieras (not the one sold at BestBuy, Circuit City, other BigBox stores as they do not carry the upper models from Panasonic) for both LCD or Plasma. They also have some of the best audio components built in, you'll be suprised when your listening/watching with no audio system.

i've had a samsung LCD for a year and it's been great. 1080p never looked so good!
