Take one more from me. It is Pre-V 210A. Dial is from Davidsen. Case is from local dealer. Cannon pin work by myself.

I was thinking of this dial - different case.

It's cool to have one of these that only made it to prototype.

BBB, from my opinion, this 210A is good for looking. But on the wrist, it catches too much attention and with the yellow strap, it is too fansy. You can see here.

I like it to be in collection. I keep making the Pre-V model. So far I got 201A, 202A, 207A, and 210A. Just a couple of them left.

Here is also my 202A in different PVD case. Not so black. It is etched PVD. I don't know how they do it. Got the case from local dealer.

Does anyone know what Davidsen uses for his PVD coating? Is it a true titanium nitride PVD, or another material...or is it merely an oxide type paint? I have an e-mail in to David, but still awaiting reply...just thought someone might know.

IWW charges something like $600 for a PVD on a watch case, so obviously there is a difference in process between the two finishes.

A dealer on this forum charges $130 for PVD.

Good info, great price! Still looking fo an answer as to what material is used for the PVD on Davidsens' though. PVD is a process, not the physical coating.

TIA

I can vouch that DSN process is true PVD. I doubt if he tells you the mixture as this is what makes or breaks a good looking result, but true titanium nitride or related you can rest assured. The last case I got from him was a Titanium ION process to replicate TI on SS and it's the most durable coating I have seen. I suppose now that the term DLC is more of a marketing, rather than technical term TI ION seems to me to be DLC by definition.

The price of the service does not reflect process quality. That's more a comparison of regional labor costs and profit margins ...

There are people in this replica community who will charge $180-200 for a lume job ... and I'm sure they will keep it up until people refuse to pay. Some people are more concerned with greed than providing an affordable service of quality.
I don't think I will be as bold as to claim it is greed, however, I wonder why lume is sooooo expensive.

Thanks for the great replys, esp. Enzo. I got a response from David and it is indeed ion plating of titanium nitride. :p

dns pvd

first - enzo, you have some truly great ones there. Love the 5218 that was never marketed.

2nd, I still think the 212 PVD should be made.

Yes, PVD starts to look better once it's aged - and it makes a big difference to have the PVD done well so that some of that texture can come through.

DSN PVD is a huge asset to this community. Was not available 2 years ago - I recall CN dealers painting the SS cases black!!
