Would like to do a review about the movement we saw in PAM 111 or other basic see through case back models .
The spec of the movement is :

Panerai Calibre OP XI
OPXI Movement

Specifications
Caliber: OP XI
Base Movement: ETA 6497/2
Year Introduced: 2002
Power Reserve: 56 hours
Jewels: 17 Jewels

Description:
Manual Winding Movement with Swans Neck Regulator. Hours, Minutes and small Seconds Hands. 21,600 vph.

OK . I have to explain a important part about the movement for some new members if you're new into PAMs .
The movement is 6497 , basic in 17 jewels hand wind movement . And ETA offer two different models as 6497-1 and 6497-2 .
6497-1 is low beats (18,800 vph) , and it can be sourced from ebay or some watch material shop . And it's popular in some classic models in lots brands . So , rep PAMs with Swiss movement are all with this 6497-1 movement . Some might swap to Asian plates to make it looks closer to gen . But just movement plates only , so the hairspring , gears , sometimes even the shock system are different from Gen .

Gen. is from 6497-2 , the model is not available from market or any watch material shop . It's only offer to the big Watch company like PANERAI . So real Swiss 6497-2 are rare and expensive .
However , we're lucky !Asian copy the 6497-2 directly , so we can have the movement with same vph and also almost the same power reserve .
But there're always flaws can be fund to tell it's rep , so the game never ends , we still have to do some on it .

First , let's check the new A6497-2 movement from N . The movement is done the incabloc Y shape fix , base on it's original Asian incabloc system . And here's the link about how it done
https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.168129146608948.45163.122906881131175&type=3

After the incabloc , I also replace the barrel gears to make it looks closer to gen .
So we will get the result like this .

181453_311301718958356_1814539003_n.jpg

For most of the fans , this is almost perfect and won't ask any more .
And to me , the result is the best in price and also quality .
But for me , I have to do my best build one very very close to Gen .
I share some pics about my 111M yesterday , and I took some pics today with Gen. 114H and also my rep 111M .
Let's check how close they are !

ALE , you're right , the movement is really very close to Gen .

Hi Goin

Many thanks for sharing that study

Really this is an interesting comparison between a gen movement 6497 and a well modified Asian 6497.
It is important to know this thread to understand the differences, and to see how we can achieve an accurate movement making some appropriate modifications.

IMO, This is the best modded Asian 6497 I have seen at this moment.

I have to say that Goin has made a modification of Incabloc very close to the gen and even has changed the Swan Neck screw, important detail that many modds forget, and IMO is a flaw more evident that the Incabloc shape.

I would like to enhance that the “Y shape†of the gen Incabloc is not made by straight lines but it is made from a circular shape, as you can see in the pics.
Usualy the modifications of Incablocs are made by straight lines and this is wrong.

As above said, usually modds don’t bear in mind either the real Incabloc shape or the correct length of the micrometric screw of the Swan Neck device.
As you can see in below pics. The usual modds have straight lines in Incabloc “Y shape†and short Swan Neck screw.

Below you can see the correct modification by Gpin with “circular shape†in Incabloc and correct length of the Swan Neck screw (see the big different screw !!). I show the GEN Pam 114 of Goin and his highly modded PAM 111

As you can see in above pics the modification made by Goin is one step more in the scale.

Thanks Goin, that was very instructive

Very nice. For me, the out of the box Asian 6497 is good enough, except maybe the too short micro screw which is common. But for those of us who strive for absolute perfection in reps regardless of the cost, this sort of stuff is truly epic. :D

Hi ALE ,

I tried to fix a asian incabloc ring today , and try to shape it circle .
I have to say , it's damn difficult to shape it like gen .
Here's the result , check it .
I replace it to my Fiddy , and you can check the before & after .
Looks better , I can live with it , LOL .

After circle shaped

Swap to my fiddy , also swap the swan neck screw already .

And the pic of my old incabloc Y shape , you can do a compare .

A true artist!

Very Nice work, what kind of file did you use?

I guess Goin is using a round file of a diameter about:

0,65 X DIAMETER of INCABLOC CIRCLE

more or less as in folllowing pic

Looks great...

Does filing it down make any mechanical difference (effect performance of incabloc) or is the mod purely cosmetic?

Cheers

I'm afraid it is purely cosmetic !!

But we will wait for the Goin's comments.

YUP , only for looking !
The incabloc shape is just for looking , no different about the function .
The longer screw is the same , only if we can make the swan neck stronger to hold the dagger , or it's just for good look .

This is cool!

I would be too nervous to take mine apart but otherwise it 'seems' kind of straight forward... I do wonder why the factories don't do it at production stage though? Couldn't cost more than a dollar or two to get that correct as part of a production line... Even if it was manual!

I'm wondering the same every time that I see an Incablock and a short screw.
I don't understand it.
Becuase people is more and more aware of these flaws !!

Where do you guys source the longer screw, from another rep or is there a way to get just the single part? I've noticed that the h-fac reps have consistently longer ones.
