They've been around a while, in a way it's a toss up. They are a legitimate pawn business with a flair of circus show based on the unscripted, raw reality that is vegas.... Any given day drive through there in the daylight hours and you can see the circus show take place. Tourists line up around the building to get inside. While I don't think this is a significant source of income, the marketing alone for the shop is worth the circus hassle looking at a business standpoint.

Never Never Land
Went there - Nothing to See - Waste of time - Show Rocks thou - Big Haus wears an AP Rubber Clad. Yowtzer !

Exactly I live in the same town that duck dynasty show is shot. I can tell you they are nothing like the hill-billies they are made out to be in the show.

They are laughing all the way to the bank.
I love DDynasty - Willi and the Robertson Clan make me laugh all the way to the pisser.

All it is is a not-as-dorky version of Antiques Roadshow. Setting it in a pawn show is just the backdrop that was picked to accomplish that aim. Nevertheless, I try and watch all the new episodes, as that stuff is really interesting a lot of the time. Would like to see more watch segments, of course!

There was one episode where a guy picks up a GMT for a great price from Corey. On that note, I stopped by a few local pawn shops in the Chicago suburbs...all crap :(

I think the show is great. Whether it's step up or not, I could care less. Mindless entertainment is how I like my evening watching. ;)

It's interesting to see how many goofs walk in expecting to make a bundle on their antiques only to learn it's either a forgery or isn't worth shit.

Rick's analysis of how to spot a fake is spot on, though. He is a good historian.

Like others have said, when they shoot they empty the store out...The day to day business is tee shirts and bobble heads. It's a tourist trap now, and none of the TV fellas are ever there except to shoot the scripted show. PLus the place is a bit shabby which really does not come across on Tv.

Woof* - Is there anything you haven't done? You need to write a book.

I've always heard that in 99% of the cases they do NOT want your pawed items. They want you to come back and pay on the loan because, as Woof* stated, that's how they make their money. At interest rates of 240% that makes sense.

That's exactly the case. If you can convince a pawn shop you would never sell your item, in an emergency, and in dire need of the money..they will help you. Once you have a track record of coming back and paying the interest, you are gold. They are just like a bank, in fact pawnbroking is the oldest form of banking.
On the other hand, you walk in with your Max prints worth 2000$, want to sell and they will never see you again...they are gonna offer you 200$
They make their money off loans...not retail.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you brought me something to sell me and I wanted to consult an "expert" regarding the authenticity and value, I wouldn't do it with you standing there.

All of the reality shows are set up for TV. Like someone has said, if they were just taping pawn shop transactions it would be boring. Anyway, the Bay is a much better place to buy a Rollie than the pawn shops that I've been in. They want a new price.

Excuse me but if I wanted to sell my Les Paul I would not take it to a pawn shop.

Agreed, hardcore pawn is a lot more reality, I like it a lot more. Storage wars is also set up like crazy, but it's entertaining :).
