I see the date font and date wheel flaws of the 5396 vs the near perfection of the 5296, but I imagine the average watch enthusiast couldn't really spot them from 1m away when it's on the wrist. I'm a real sucker for a moonphase.
I'm trying to recreate this gen (different model) with a hazelnut CF strap, which looks beautiful with the rose gold and moonphase. Feels like 5396 will be the way to go.
This is a stunning combi! You should definitely go for it. If you can accept the flaws of the 5396, it's a great rep. I considered it too. But it looks too much like my 5296R so I chose the 5205.

That's the wrong version of the 5396 mate. This is the old version, which has the crescent moon at night. It was updated in august 2018 where KMF released the version with full moons at day and night. That's the one you would want. Although i'm unsure if it was ever released in RG. If not you would have to accept that it's a crescent moon at night.

JM_BRC, any chance you can take a close up pic of the date window in the center. I'm confused about the issue there. Is there actually a magnification there?
JM I reread your initial review and see your comments on the sunken date with magnification.
I am going to order one since I can live with the flaw in my opinion as in yours it is a minor flaw and cannot be seen unless close up.
May I ask where you purchased the deployant buckle and strap? Is the deployant buckle stamped as gen with Patek?

I don't think it's that noticeable. Off course it takes a little off the watch. On the gen the date is as big as the day and month on the rep.
So it makes a little difference. But i like having this watch in my collection. If i'm going somewhere my watch would be analyzed in detail or persons who know a lot about watches, then i wear some rep which has less flaws, or i wear a gen. But this piece is really nice to have in my collection.
I love having a calendar watch this beautiful and i love that i haven't paid 40k+ USD for it.
The deployant is from my 5070P chronograph. And it has the Patek logo and stamp on it. The strap is Camille Fournet. It's a custom made black shiny in 20/18 MM, black round scale alligator lining, round profile, 4,0mm thickness.
You can buy the deployant buckle from Watchfinder. I'm not aware of anyone else who has them.

I don't see any options for the underside of the strap though.
And it is 20/18mm, there is only one length for men correct?
Either you can choose those or do a custom made one:

Go to the menu and choose "Made to Measure", it's under the menu item "Leather Watch Strap". Here you can choose all the options. And choose lining with black round scale alligator for example.
Yes 20/18:
I would suggest you wait for Watchfinder to confirm if he can get you the deployant before you order. Because if he can't, the watch comes with a pin buckle. And the length of the strap has to be slightly different if you have a buckle instead of a deployant.
