I think it looks awesome! One of the most legible watches out there IMO. I'd put it on a thick grey leather strap with black stitches 😋

I do agree that it's a bit too thick for a 42mm watch, but it's a Panerai, that's kind of expected 🤗 It was the same problem with those old Omega POs. 45mm ones looked and felt much more balanced than the 42mm version.

approx 1mm should be the difference... Gen = 13,22mm, Rep = 14,5mm (according to a TDs website). But to my opinion we are at 14mm (not measured very accurate, can do this, when I am back at the office). I think VSF is not that bad with the thicknes.
yes, the VSF 1074 has 14,5mm so I guess all 42mm Subs will have 14,5mm. Afaik this is Gen-Thickness. My comment was not about VSF but about the Gen ;-)

The smaller the diameter, the "bulkier" a watch with a given thickness looks. Here you can see a 47mm 692 with 15,5mm thickness which imo looks slimmer than the 1074 though it is actually 1mm thicker ...

I knew you would use a 692 pic to underline your explanation!

just some quick brief impressions of the 2223... tomorrow at daylight I will take propper pics (and also with the Corrigia strap :) ) - just in short: I am most happy with it and this one has NO rotor noise.

Looks very nice pal. Had I known there'd be a 42mm white Sub, I probably wouldn't have bought a bulkier 44mm white Sub, PAM 1209. In my opinion, 42mm Pam Subs wear very nicely on the wrist.

so, here we go. Please keep in mind that this is not a professional review. Just a few pics and my impression about the most obvious flaws regarding the VSF 42mm PAMs.

First of all, I changed the strap to the Corrigia ("AO S04 Roger Blue"), which is an additional >60% costs of the watch price  The watch has a working quick release for the strap. I always appreciated this function (the Carbontech 2231 uses spring bars).

Anyways, there is nothing to complain about the overall quality and accuracy. Biggest tell in my opinion is the glass. Having a closer look, it still has some light Fish-Eye-Effect, but with a big improvement compared to the models 2 years ago. Especially the indizies on the bezel are very good and carrying the thicker candles on the 5 and 10 marker position.

Biggest positive news: the watch has NO rotor noise. I really was worried about that, because my 2231 came with the loudest rotor noise, I ever had.

Don't know what else to tell, so if you have any questions let me know. Here some pics:

by the way, I had the exact same strap + watch combination with my VSF PAM 1226, but this was a 44mm. It looked also very good but I feel much more comfy with the 42mm. Here a pic of the 1226:

Watch and strap combo is absolute 🔥 .

Great news to hear it has a quiet rotor too!.

Hey, all my PAM friends. Been around the rep game along time but new to Panerai. I’ve always loved the look but never owned one. Because of this thread I pulled the trigger on a 2223 and I love it!

Question: Are we able to source Gen parts for the Panerai watches like we can Rolex?

All of my watches are Franken and I would like to do the same thing with my 2223.

Thanks for any feedback and direction given!

Hi guys, that dial version looks very nice for summer.
Is the dial as beautiful and grainy as on the gen? Hard to see on the previous pics..

Thanks

Does anyone know where or who I can reach out to for Gen Panerai parts?

I have my connections for Rolex parts but new to Panerai builds.

For this model afaik the GEN P900 movement will not fit as the REP is using the VSF P9000 clone which is thicker. The GEN hands will not fit (at least the minute one) as the cannon pinion of P9000 is bigger in diameter.
So the case is also approx 1mm thicker than GEN. The bezel.. who knows how it is made (inside... the spring) - i do have the 683 REP and already opened up the bezel to tighten up the spring - it looked like one of my Vostok watches, but still a good made mechanism.
I think to source the GEN parts will also be much more difficult compared to Rolex, as Rolex is a widely known and popular watch brand (GEN and REP)
Otherwise, you can go through the whole PAM guides here in forum.
For me, only a GEN Strap (rubber) option is available fur the current VSF SUB REP Range. Probably a crystal too, if some can source it out.

Thank you for the post and feedback! I really hope that getting Gen parts for these Panerai is not really that hard. The reason I love my reps so much is knowing I can put Gen parts in them (which all of my Rolexes are Franken). I love this 2223 and some other models but really want to build them with a few Gen parts.
