Very clever of you. Unfortunately some of our members cannot put those pieces together. They are still "waiting".

Lol...well..some people are just ahead when thinking i guess...it also pisses me off to see comments like some i've seen regarding the prices. Paying 500-700bux doesn't warrant you perfection. Never. Want perfection? that is immaculate...easy..buy a gen. The littlest details are making these people so over excited. I mean, who the hell will squint their eyes to see if your TM on the crown guard...or the CG for that matter is not perfect?. I wore the zfac 382 to the Panerai boutique the other day..i didn't know if they were being nice or what but i was treated like a vip the moment they saw me enter. I was offered wine, chocolates..lol! And the Manager came up to me. He was a nice dude. We chatted about Panerai stuff and watches in general.

Many folks here think that $500 entitles them to be a nit picking asshole. They torture dealers with gen pics and demands that are unrealistic. It's about time some of this stuff just goes away. $500 is a drop in the bucket compared to a gen. It's also not a green light to be an over demanding prick.

Exactly -- I have to hand it to you -- for the past 2 months with all this over-analyzing nonsense, you have been right on the money. Is there such thing as a perfect woman? A perfect car? A perfect business deal? A perfect gen even? Nope. Never will be. There is a case to be made that the scruples of our customer base have increased the quality of these products exponentially -- but there is a limit. The most riced out Honda Civic is still not as cool as a BMW.

You're basing your purchases off conjecture spread on a forum. The point of the hobby is to enjoy and see the variety of pieces. This infatuation with insignificant flaws is doing nothing but ruining the hobby.

Isn't that the point of the forum? To learn something and base my decision on opinions of other members and pics I see? I would maybe see the variety of pieces but my budget currently limits me in this journey so I read as much as I can and when I can afford something that I like, I rather think about it before I spend my money on it and I'm enjoying this hobby as much as I can. Believe me. ;) I'm not in any way infatuated with details (you can see I have U-42 and BR01-92 in my sig that has tons of flaws and I still love these watches) but if I think one version is better than another for the same price, why not to go with it then? Even if I have to wait some time for it. That's also part of the game and enjoyment. At least it is for me. :)

+1 That's true definitely.

I thought the point of the hobby was to nitpick on every minutiae of the rep, to make it closer to gen? :D Gone are the days of old when Eddie Lee, Little Hero and others became popular (and it became expensive) for providing parts to improve on the reps OTB. We are just pampered now with the run of super reps like the PAM111/PAM243, but there is still a place to point out things that could be improved (since not everything that followed was of the same quality). Of course, we can't have everything (and usually we just have to live with what the factory is willing to fix, either in the next version or a new model, since essentially some PAMs have interchangeable parts, or even before the rep is released), but it's part of the fun. It's also part of the stress of the hobby, for sure. We just have to make sure we have more of the fun than the stress. ;) Not going into the pricing discussion, we pay for what we think is acceptable and that is a personal matter.

As for the question on what DLC looks like, check the caseback of the gen PAM508, as that's what it's made of (Black coated Titanium). I think there was some mix-up so in the initial description the rep was thought to be completely made of DLCed Titanium (it has been done before by TSWatch for their version of the PAM505) as it is the closest in terms of weight and appearance to ceramic and until the PAM438/441, we were fully prepared to accept this deviation from the spec. Happily, the relative success of the PAM438/441 ceramic case has now made it possible for ceramic cased PAMs like the PAM508 to use a material that is the same as in gen. :D

By the way, Merry Christmas to everyone. :nana::thumbsup::coffee::cheese:

Edit:
The OP was mentioning ZF, but the one on Angus' site is apparently V6F or KW. Maybe ZF's version is totally DLCed Ti until a definitive announcement from any of the TDs says otherwise. My bad. :)

Haha this thread is several months old. Not worth bouncing it back.
The 508 here was ZF version and made of DLC ti indeed. So now V6 has released the superior one.

I normally check the first posts and then reply on the post that most interests me. I didn't check that only the last post was recent.

Sorry to bring a thread back from the grave but got a few questions...

how do I tell if my 508 is DLC or ceramic?
also, are the caseback engravings not deep? Mine looks faint...
