The case back on the Rep is thicker than gen. Is this the Seagull non-inverted ST2555 movement? Are there any Reps of the 388 with a thin case back?

Another difference is on the "OFFICINE PANERAI" inscription on the back.

On the Gen is on the crown side, on the rep is on the opposite side

The caseback does not screw down to a specific turn, and the the wordings not necessarily fall on the same place. Lol not sure if that made sense but not sure how to describe it lol.

It's basically the same myth as the Rolex crown where it magically stops with the crown upright when you tighten it. Here's a few PAM388 gen casebacks from chrono24.

As you can see, no rhyme or reason for the placement of the inscriptions.

Many thanks

I knew about the Rolex positioning and I (wrongly) thought that also Panerai casebacks used this kind of attention to details

The engravings for those images are fairly easy to align anyway the manufacturers want because the images you see on their websites are mostly computer generated.

I bought one a while back when they came out and it's still in the wrappers. After this review it might be time to bust it out after I get a new strap!

It's as good time as any to get it out. :)
