Hi gents,
I put my 382 in a freezer bag with 3 eggs and put table salt all over the bag. I reheated the eggs in the bag (without the watch) about 3 times. Finally I took the watch and put in onto a damp paper towel and left it inside a sandwich bag to further the green patina. Here is the final result. I hope it's stays.
Next I'm going to use a cape cod watch to finish the job

Can u be more specific on the differents steps???
Do you mean, the eggs were hard boiled ?
Do u peel the shell off?
Do u keep the watch afterwards with the eggs together , and how long???

I hard boiled the eggs. When the were ready I used tongs and put them into a freezer bag then I used a plastic spoon to smash them up. Make sure they are hot! I put my watch on a folded paper towel in the corner of the bag away from the eggs. I had to blow into the bag as to keep it inflated several times. There will be a ton of condensation so if you want to rub the watch inside the bag that won't hurt. After it was all said and done I put the watch into another bag and let it sit overnight. The pics shown above are untouched. I removed the watch from the bag and took the pics. I did wash it off to see what would happen and most of the green came off. I think you should let the watch sit for about 24 hours and "dry" in order to let the patina set in. If not it will wash off pretty easily

Since its Easter you can put some of those hard boiled eggs in the microwave and use those if needed.

I did exactly the same with a bronze watch, I got really nice results.

Nice job ;-)

Here are some progress pics after using the cape cod cloth. The right side by the crown guard was the side that I used the cc cloth on. The left side is untouched

Well. The cape cod pretty much wiped it clean. So I'm pretty confident that this thing is bulletproof. I'm gojng to try the whole thing again and use more salt. Leave it overnight and they dry it out for a day to see how it looks. We'll see

Okay. The cape cod watch may not have been the best idea in hindsight. Now the watch is shiny. Actually looks more gold than bronze

Any ideas? I'm thinking of leaving it outside every night until it patinas.. I'm leaning towards more of a darker brown look. Not liking the shine

Well, it can't be avoided. It's been mentioned quite a few times already. NEVER use cape cod on a brushed finish. It will simply obliterate the variations in height and result to an even polished surface. To remove the patina (basically resetting the look of the bronze), simply soak in some lemon juice diluted in water for not more than 30 minutes.

So my 382 is ruined now as far as being able to have a good patina??

I'm not referring to that part of his statement. I understand how to get the bronze back.. I'm wondering if I ruined the finish by using the cape cod on the watch so that it will no longer have a brushed look..

i think you will still get patina on it, but it might look a bit different since some of the brushed surface has been reduced, hence it being shinny.

If it doesn't turn out to his liking, he could always rebrush as well, right?

I'm going to try the liver of sulfur next.. Trying to get it right.. Just wanted to experiment with this one first before I consider the gen. Either way I'm definitely enjoying the effort so far.
