I had a weak moment and ordered one.. (approved) QC pics, they seem to have done a good job on the sunburst affect on the dial, I’ll inspect the sub dial closer once in hand.
Plearl looks very flat & GEN looking. I might order this as well.
As I don´t know the TTF 1070 (does it really exist?), I can give you some info about the general difference between the TTF- and the SBF-Submersibles. Beside some smaller differences the big difference is the movement. While the TTF uses the traditional A7750, SBF uses their own Clone-Movement of the Panerai P.9000. That has pros and cons. Let´s start with the big pro: Because of its smaller size the clone movement allows SBF to build thinner watches. The Gen 44mm Submersibles are only 13.5mm. SBFs are 15.5mm thick. These 2mm seem not be much, but they are, because they change the whole line of the watch. TTF is even one mm thicker and has a thickness of 16.5mm. You might say, one mm is nothing. Wrong in this case. The one additional mm is on the backside of the watch. Where the SBF has a nearly flat caseback, the TTF has a kind of bump on the back. And if you wear the watch on the bone of your wrist, it "sits" on the bone and wears much thicker. Can anyone explain the difference between the sbf vs vsf , which is $100 cheaper ?

No to the con: SBFs movement is a clone of the P.9000 but not of the P.900, that the new Submersibles uses. The P.900 however has a quick date function, while the P.9000 has a flying hour. So the SBF has not the Gen-functionality while the TTF is correct in this point, because the A7750 has a quick date setting.
In the end it´s up to you. I prefer the SBF, not only because the slimmer case (very important to me!) but also because of the better finishing in many other small points, that are model-specific. If you however say, Gen-Functionality is the main point, you should choose TTF. The TTFs are no bad Reps and yes, they are cheaper. But in the end, SBF are better Reps.
100% ACK. I have the TTF 1226 and three SBF-44-Subs and SBF is really much better. After CNY I am gonna order the SBF 1226 and the 1287 and maybe the 1232 to "complete" the series and the TTF will go in the M2M-Sale. I really love the SBF-Subs and the 44mm are just my sweet spot.Godt Post Jay
I have been wearing the PAM1229 by SBF all week and I’m pleasantly surprised by the craftmanship. A very good VSF contender. I just ordered the 1070 also. I would pay the extra 100 and go SB and omit TT all together.
The flying date do not bother me.
I have not been paying that much attention but is part of the old VSF crew now the SBF ?100% ACK. I have the TTF 1226 and three SBF-44-Subs and SBF is really much better. At least that's what the TDs claim ;-)I have not been paying that much attention but is part of the old VSF crew now the SBF ?
Gotta agree with JB, I have the 1229 SBF and very happy with the overall quality, yes we know the flaws where date window could be done better, the p900 movement rep'd and slimmer case but that doesn't bother me, its got a nice presence on the wrist.. I have the SBF 1226, 1070 and 1288 on the way, should land in the next week or two (tri-shipping sucks, thank you Brexit!).100% ACK. Can't agree more, 44mm is the perfect Pam Subs and Luminors size to me too.I really love the SBF-Subs and the 44mm are just my sweet spot.
Seems that SBF can´t deliver before CNY ... at least my dealer told me so. But I can wait ;-)I had to reject a 1rst 1229 yesterday (flawed on QC, I'll see what comes next) and as Chinese NY is coming I'll postpone my orders as well but the next one is the 1070.
I'm really curious to taste those SBF, a bit jealous of you guys here .
Terrible news ! Devastating.Seems that SBF can´t deliver before CNY ... at least my dealer told me so. But I can wait ;-)
Beautiful. How is the weight compared to the 1229?Combo of “gold“ case and carbotech bezel is really nice IRL, the dial is very nicely done too, will have wait for the sun to pop out to get some decent natural light pics..
Don't have any weights at home and wife won't let me use her kitchen utensils anymore :-D... but by feel.. I'd say the 1070 is slight lighter due to CarboTech Bezel..Beautiful.How is the weight compared to the 1229?
