PAM stem length ideas

I've a 44mm PAM case from AliX with a ST2555 and am wondering if there are any tips/tricks/things I'm not thinking about doing to get the stem length correct.

I shortened the stem a few times (measure twice, cut once) getting closer and closer to the length where it'd seat into the movement, but still come out far enough, to the time setting position, before it was stopped by the inside of the crown guard. When I was quite close, but still not short enough to get out to the time setting position with the cg installed, I took a file and removed about 0.3mm more of stem. And that appears to have been too much. I can no longer get the stem seated into the movement. Are the tolerances of these really that tight? I've ordered some more stems for round two, but was wondering if there was something else to consider when I try this next.

Are you sure you didn't upset the keyless works the last time you removed the stem ?

@tripdog and...that's exactly what happened. Uncased, I still can't get the stem to lock into place.

Remove the gasket inside the crown and check.
You could change the gasket to a thinner one

It's the keyless works then. I don 't know anything about resetting the keyless on these movements, @black_shark will probably be able to help.

A few pics from today.

In this third photo, I've reset the keyless. On the left (9 o'clock small seconds) you may be able to make out a tiny gear/pin that is laying across the seconds gear (?). I've no idea, yet, where, or how this goes back into place.
