Just a short explanation of water resistance. The rating on the watch does not mean physical depth although that is a common misconception. It relates to the pressure that a watch can withstand. So a watch rated for 10ATM or 100m cannot be brought to a depth of 100m, that's just asking for trouble. It only means you can swim with the watch and maybe do some snorkeling, but that's it.
This only holds true for genuine watches, which have been tested using controlled standards (and even then some would warn against wearing watches in showers as moisture can seep into the watch). Rep watches are a whole other beast. Even if your TD tests your watch for water resistance, they won't guarantee it AFAIK. You are on your own. It's best to take it to a rep-friendly (or indifferent) watchmaker and have your watch properly sealed and tested before attempting to swim with it. That said, anecdotally, I have taken a few submersibles to water at my own risk (snorkeling, no diving) and they fortunately came out unscathed.
