From what I know, as they arrive from Panerai, they are almost completely without patina. I have seen many unboxing photos of people receiving their 507 and they are very bright. Once out and exposed for a while, they start to develop the patina. How much and the type of patina depends on the environment they are exposed to and how they are maintained (i.e. swimming in the ocean, or carefully wiped down after wearing).

There are some members of Paneristi who own the 382/507 that love the patina, and there are others that try to maintain the watches as close to the original condition as possible. Some ways in which they do this are to put ketchup (!!) on the watch, or to immerse in diluted lemon juice and baking soda. Basically a mildly acidic solution to return it to the original lustre.
