You'd have to replace the dial as well, the 183 has "RADIOMIR PANERAI" at the top and "BLACK SEAL" at the bottom, while the 292 has "RADIOMIR BLACK SEAL" at the top and "PANERAI" at the bottom. Not to mention the 183 doesn't come with a pig dial.

yeah i feel like i'd screw that one up.. LOL. What is stopping someone from brushing the ceramic similarly to get the matte look?

(btw nice VW, i have a MKV GTI)

It's not that bad...with 2000 grit it's pretty much idiot-proof. Just have to keep going in one direction and everything works out.

Thanks  It's my first VW and I'm super-hooked...looking into a mkIV R32 or a VR-swapped mkII next.

i sent MR and email to see if he could source a matte ceramic 292. I figured he'd come back with a "no, but i have a matte pvd..." or "no, but there's a polished ceramic..." to my suprise he said he found a matte ceramic case 292. He said it was from the ceramic chanel maker. Unfortuinatly he does not have any pics.. so i'd have to order and wait for QC pics. That's not really something i want to do being as i'm not totally sure it's correct. There have been threads before where a dealer sourced a 'ceramic case' and what was shipped was obviously PVD.

Thanks  It's my first VW and I'm super-hooked...looking into a mkIV R32 or a VR-swapped mkII next.

My first VW as well. i love the R32! absolute powerhouse. Always wanted one, but they don't make the MKV R32 in a 6 speed. Only the paddle shifter, which for me, is a big turn off.

Jee from Silix sent me some images of a 'ceramic' 292K (no pig dial :() that he sourced.
I'm not a ceramic expert, or know anything about it for that matter, so here are same comparison images. If this 292 actually IS ceramic that would be great! Let me know what you think.

FWIW, Robert has a VERY nice matte 292 pig dial in his section. Don't buy them all, because i'm getting one :D

I just PMed Robert about that model! but he hadn't gotten back to me yet. The ONLY thing i see off about that case is the lack of model number on the back. JXXXX/1000 should be on the bottom left corner near the insert. But now I'm just getting picky

serial number off, vs. shiny ceramic...kind of a no-brainer there ;) Robert's is the closest I've seen even if it isn't ceramic....that pig dial is awesome!

defiantly no comparison.. I wonder if there is someone who would engrave the model/serial number into the case, DLC or ceramic.

Ceramic coating

This version of the 292 always struck me as odd, because descriptions said it was 'ceramic' but it had no lug screw inserts (as far as i know you can't drill & thread ceramic. which is why the gen and FULL ceramic reps have lug screw inserts.) ceramic COATING makes sense. Is this one of the reps that say "BLACK EAL" on the back?

Can't realy tell from the pics...is that matte finish? It looks matte in the second pic but gloss in the first, maybe due to the glare...

I'm tempted to just get the one from Robert and relume it with something (maybe GMax from watchlume) but it would cost about as much as a new 026K...

It's shiny ceramic not matte, it's weird because this is the back

I know the 292 has a solid back. This watch is unbelievably accurate even after no winding for about 3 days!!
