Is it bad to advance at the crown? I did it there instead of using the tool. There's probably a risk of breaking something if you do it too quickly...

Just be careful. I wish there was a way to advance the date normally.

No...but if you wear it in rotation and haven't had it powered up for a few days your going to be there a while advancing through several days

New updates and problems posted in original post. Bottom line I need some help and advice from fellow members. Immediate problem is that the A7753 datewheel does not fit the ETA7753 movement.
"So now my options are 1. get a black eta 7753 datewheel with incorrect font and live with it until I can get a compatible datewheel 2. Source a true black eta compatible datewheel 3. scrap the upgrade and just sell the movement.
If any one can help that would be awesome!"

Well Davidsenjpn responded to me that he has a date wheel with the thick pam font that is compatible with the eta 7753. He showed me a pic from the pam 196. Hopefully the date window for the pam 196 is in the same position as the pam 187g.

While you have this open, would you take a closeup photo of the inside of the date changer?

I had a C-clip come off of mine and I'm trying to put it together again. I'll put some pics up of what I'm looking at now.....

Sorry thinkbachs, joe is doing the modding so i don't have the watch in front of me. As of now he packed the movement and watch away until the dw arrives from davidsenjpn. I'll ask him to look at this your pics though.

Yeah, i remember those days. Luckily davidsenjpn has one in stock that he uses for his eta7753 pam196. Hopefully it will fit the date window for my pam 187g.

Hi,

Although I'm new here, I can say that the rep dial will not fit the gen movement.
The date window is in the wrong place.
The best way to upgrade this model is to keep the A7753, have it serviced and relume the dial with a darker lume.

Wow....

this makes me happy that my date change tool was lost.

If you look closely (and I'm sure you have) the date window isn't in the same spot on the Gen versus the rep. The gen is dead center between the 4 and 5 hour marker. the rep appears to have the same spacing from the center of the dial, but skewed about 1mm towards the 5 hour marker. If you can live with that, it should work.

Otherwise, I'm shocked with all of these mechanical geniuses on here that there isn't a way to custom print a date wheel for you. There's got to be a way.

Nice catch. I didn't realize the date window on the gen pam 187G was perfectly centered between the 4 and 5. Luckily, the date wheel that is coming from davidsenjpn is the one that fits the ETA7753 pam196 which has it's date window closer to the 5 like on the rep 187G. I think davidsenjpn is the only TD that sells these special datewheels now. Previously there were llelo, leo and takashi

Update 7/10/13
Ok the date wheel from davidsenjpn has come in and it fits perfectly in the date window! Also the font looks better than I thought it would. I was worried it might be too thin but it seems spot on. i asked for the thick font version. I found a gen pic to compare it to and it looks very close. It actually may be the same but the angle of the gen shot makes it hard to compare accurately.

Joe graciously squeezed this datewheel fitting in before he went on vacation so now I have to wait until next week to see how the rest goes. Also, he did mention concern on luming the dial markers saying that it would change the color of the markers. I've decided to skip the dial and just have him relume the hands and do the pearl mod. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Original thread updated.

I think This is a great call! The lume that's on there now looks pretty close in strength to the original tritium. The hands and the pearl is a great upgrade!

I am so bummed. Joe contacted me yesterday and told me that many of the datewheel numbers do not line up. Even though the "6" he tested before he left on vacation lined up well, upon further inspection yesterday, the other number do not.

As a result I have decided to pass on this upgrade. I do not want to spend more time and money on another datewheel that might work. If any of the watchsmiths have one that is compatible that would be great! Otherwise, as per Joe's advice, I have decided to just relume, water proof and service the A7753. Joe also offered that another pam rep chrono might work and that he could order one at his risk. What a guy! I am thinking of the new pam 356O. The date window which is perfectly centered between the "4" and "5" might actually fit the datewheel.
Thanks for following this thread!

DUDE!!!! THAT SUCKS!!!

I'm sorry to hear I was right about the date window being offset towards the 5 hour marker. Like I said in an earlier post, there has to be some one that can custom print you a date wheel.

Yeah I figured the date wheel would fit since the swiss pam196 davidsenjpn sells is also offset. Oh well. Worst case scenario I sell the movement and order the vac swiss pam243 sooner.

Well, as stated previously, I decided to scrap the movement upgrade and settle for a hand relume, pearl mod, light movement service(rbj said the movement was in great condition already) and water proofing. Here is a pic of the watch before he sent it today. Can't wait to see it in person. I'm debating if I should sell it with all these new watches out right now or keep it. I guess i'll have to get it in my hands and get reacquainted ;)

I know this is an old thread but I'm busy with the same watch, I love it and I'm thinking of making a hybrid swiss/asian 7753, if this is possible at all?
