Got my 127 today and noticed the glass is a bit odd. When you look at it from certain angles and mainly face on, there is a faint outline where the dome shape becomes flat. Looks like there is sticker stuck on the glass. Is this normal for a 127?

Looks like I'll just have buy a WSO crystal. I hope they are good as people say there are.

As I understand, they're not....they seem to be having some quality control issues and it appears the Fiddy crystals are very hard to find. Most are being rejected by the modders that normally use them.
As far as the gens, there is a "break" or a line at the convergence from curved surface to flat...but it is not as severe, or as noticeable as the "ridge" that you are seeing on your crystal.
I have a Destro Fiddy with the same issue, and was trying to source a WSO or a DSN crystal.
I kinda gave up with a big headache...and was hoping for someone like yourself to come along and take over for me... :thud:

A few more pictures and you can clearly see the ridge on the crystal.

Thanks for posting these pictures. The ridge does look more pronounced then the gen (at least from pics of the gen that i've seen).

Given time to stare at the ridge it does become somewhat distracting. However, since it will be on the wrist most of the time (and in motion) it's not that big of a deal to me.

It's crazy, however, that this dome is so difficult to get right.

I love the look of the 127 I but i'm hoping that the dome is fixed in the next batch that will be released hopefully sometime in the not too distant future.

Hmm that's strange... of all the fiddies I've seen so far, I had not noticed this.

Does Marlin change the crystal when you send in your fiddy for the works??

It is not at all easy to photograph this...but is much more apparent in your hand. Jhericurl will back me up on this, I'm sure. It is not as noticeable in regular daylight either.
It is a consistency problem in the crystal sourcing, I guess...they do not all have the problem. This was true of the gens also at the time. Mine has this problem, a Noob Ultimate from earlier in the year...and Jhericurl's is from the new batch.
I don't like to speak for him, but Marlin said the WSO crystals are not consistent in quality anymore, and he is sending back and forth with WSO, trying to get good crystals, being the perfectionist he obviously is. This is very time consuming, and backs up his other work.
Its very confusing, due to the inconsistency, and that everyone has an opinion. But a picture is worth.........right? :)

Spot on marcogumbo, its very hard to photography but can be very noticeable with the naked eye. It is most noticeable in room light when you have direct light from one direction. You will not noticeable it much in outdoor situations.

And once you see it, there is no unseeing it. First thing I notice now.

I've took my chance with a WSO crystal, so wish me luck. Just hope they don't send me one of Marlins rejects :eek:

and i also notice that the line on the destro is closer to the curved position on the crystal and that makes it less pronounced whereas on the fiddy the line is more further away(closer to center) makes it more noticable

About 50% of the WSO crystals I bought were good. They were not consistent at all. There was an RG member (forget his name) who produced a replacement 217 crystal a few years back which was far better than the WSO. I have one and love it. Wish there were more.

Definitely post some before and after pictures.
And your statement is perfect....once you see it, there is no unseeing it :)
Every time I look at my watch I see that ring.

reefster...this is a great example of what seems to be happening. I think Ale and others have said that there should be SOME distortion as per gen...and that there is also a "break" at the radius of the curve-to-flat point of the crystal. As I have seen in even gens, this should be just a refraction issue, and definitely not the "ridge" we are seeing in some of these crystals. To me, in this photo, your Destro looks like it should, IMHO,...but your Fiddy is just like mine and Jhericurls'.
And it's not just a ridge, its a double ridge....it looks just like there are 2 slightly different diameter giant flat contact lenses stuck inside the crystal. No matter what anyone else says, that's a defect. Even in a rep. And I don't much care about the little details that make a watch that much closer to the gen. I just like watches...and I'm not trying to fool anybody. But this looks like crap.
So, we know this problem existed before, and also still exists in the current batch of Noobs recently released.
Reefster...when did you get your Fiddy?

Slaughterer...was he selling crystals through Davidsen...and is that DSN?
There was a lot of talk on the other forums about DSN crystals, but I try and stay off the other forums. And I looked through Davidsens threads here for a while..but got kinda burned out. I'll send him a message.
I read stuff going back to like 2007 on these damn crystals, mostly just distortion issues, which I would definitely live with over this other thing.
And aren't the WSO's like $150.00?? Thats big money right there.
