You guys are making such a big deal about this it's ridiculous, my dad and I thought it'd be funny to test his knowledge I'm reporting this post to be deleted

No........it is not ridiculous at all that members here are "making such a big deal about this".

Maybe you've forgotten the rules that you read when joining RWI???........The First Constitution of RWI, Section 1, Paragraph F, Clause 2 reads thus........

F)The following categories are grounds for instant banning:

1) spammers and scammers: do not join RWI to post porn, peddle software and DVD's, or to sell your erectile dysfunction medications. Any moderator or admin can ban, and we're all just dying to do it.

2) do not post pictures or references to your rep watch on forums for genuine watches. Replicas are legal to purchase in the US, but not in all countries, and they are illegal to manufacture and sell everywhere. Yes, certainly Rolex knows they exist, and they undoubtedly know about these forums as well, but there is no need to call attention to ourselves, or to demonstrate to the world how good the imitations have become.

........if it is forbidden to post pictures or references of your rep watch on forums for genuine watches........it only stands to reason that it is not taken lightly when we hear of a member thrusting their rep watch under the nose of someone who deals with gens on a daily basis........personal friend or not.

Perhaps this has enlightened you a little........perhaps not........but hopefully you'll bear this in mind for future reference if you're thinking of doing such a thing again.

It would be naive to imagine that any high end manufacturer is not fully aware of the various counterfeits of its products and just how good they are - not to say that the OP was right/wrong, just that its not going to come as much of a surprise to them.
At the ultimate end of the market when I worked in banknote production we had access to counterfeit notes - its how we learnt how to make then harder to copy.

I do not fall under any of these categories, thanks for specifying. I did not call attention to the rep world at all - if anything I called attention to ebay

In a Causal Loop
I have a friend (obviously older than I) who happens to be one of the top Panerai representatives in the country. I would just like to share that today at lunch I showed him my new Panerai which I purchased off "e-bay" and he claimed that it was most definitely genuine. The quality of this thing is INSANE!

I know showing Replicas to AD's is against the rule here but this is a close, personal friend.

Is your friend's name Archie? :)

perhaps your 'friend' didn't want to break the bad news that you (or your dad rather) got taken for a rep?

If it were me and a close friend bought a watch for his son telling me it was a genuine I would not expect them to be trying to fool me anyway, as a friend that makes no sense.

Which pam was the representative wearing? Did you get to take a look?

and :ttiwwop:

Just because somebody works for Richemont doesn't mean they know anything at all about watches. It just means they know how to sell jewelry. If they actually have technical knowledge about watches--their brand or others--that's a plus.

Deception is deception. No other way to sugar coat it.

LOL

How old are you?

There needs to be a line that rep owners should not cross and should not come close to.

The reaction to this post indicates that this was not cool. Stop, breath and soak this message in. If you want to make friends here, start by trusting some of these guys advice. :)

I think some of you are taking this way out of context. He didn't break forum rules first off. He showed his watch to a friend and he wanted to see if he could tell if its a rep or not. I completely get it. He didn't go out of his way to show the watch on the/a forum as a gen.
Like Tommy boy said; Half the time AD's don't know what the hell they're looking at in the first place. It's like talking to a employee of Best Buy about TV or computer specs, 90% of the time you give the "deer in headlights" look.

My dad's good friend works for Tourneau in South coast. We have a card game once a month and we are constantly comparing watches. Half the stuff he see's he thinks is real (and some of it is) but I don't go out of my way to say some of them are reps, if he asks I'll tell him, but he never asks.......So who cares?

Not sure what my age has to do with anything, but 25.

The message is understandable but this is a friend of his family because of this, and in my opinion, it doesn't make it a big deal at all. Furthermore he said he got it from e-bay ect. ect. not putting any of the TD's or RWI under fire.

I really don't see what the big fuss is about and people being like "don't draw attention to our hobby!", please google search, twitter feed, come the #$$% on.

Asking execs of any watch company (or even some sales folks) for that matter would not know how to tell a rep from a gen.

They are desk jockeys...

The point is, it's moot to and frowned upon to test your watch with the gen folks.

@ Arseven - Anybody can join this forum with parental consent

@All - I understand I did something frowned upon, this is not covered in the rules - more of a moral issue. Wont happen again, although 99.9% of you took this completely out of context

Lol, let's keep all our secrets here on our secret forum that anyone can visit or become a member of. When i got interested in replicas i used google and found this forum, it took me about ten minutes before i was reading all this "secret" replica stuff.

Yes it would be nice if this was more underground, but be realistic; it isnt.
