Love this watch. Trying to be patient and waiting on the blue dial but these pics are making it tough!

Yeah I was lucky I got one of the QC reject ones when the errors were still very minor. I love it, even with some qc errors it's so close to gen it's NWBG.

Amazing. So close. If the Rolex, Inc. people saw this thread, they’d crap their pants. LOL.

Another great post by repworld. These comparisons are time consuming and difficult to do well– thanks for your efforts!

Politely disagree about the brushing— I think it looks pretty good. The lower SEL does appear to have a noticeable gap, but I think that’s a QC issue on this particular watch. I’ve seen other ones posted with exceptional tolerances on the SEL/lug interface.

Remember too that at on the wrist there’s no light beneath the SEL, and from even a few feet away, it’s almost impossible to see either the SEL gap (unless it’s huge) or minor inconsistencies in the bracelet’s brushed finish.

No rep is ever going to perfectly match a gen, but for $325, this is a damn fine attempt.

Looks good but as I thought gray color is off. They will probably rep it soon again. that's why they bought gen gray dial and gen blue dial.

That is good to hear. I may just get the gray for now and blue down the road.

Ummmmmmmm.....

Were you looking at the pictures above?

It looks like the exact same color. The difference in photo angle and light source position creates a wide range of surface effect on the dial as it is a reflective sunburst dial made up of hundreds of thousands of miniscule grey lines. The color itself is virtually exact, trust me I have seen the gen and the JF and I wouldnt ve able to tell a color difference...

I've seen both and it's not the same shade of gray and no it's not the lighting.
Very top pic that repworld posted only confirms it. Only grape is spot on. They will probably correct gray and blue with v2.

It’s interesting to me that JF supposedly purchased the gen with the grape dial, since as the story goes, “the grape dial is the hardest color to replicate correctly”. I can’t imagine that sales of this terrible red-purple abomination will be anywhere NEAR those for the blue or grey dials. From a business standpoint, I’d want to buy the gen I would expect to be the best seller and focus my efforts on getting it right, rather than worry about correctly matching the dial color that’s the least likely to sell well, but as we all know, logic and common sense are often strangely absent from RepWorld...

Blue and gray colors are more appealing to guys in "western countries" so more people will be buying them here.
It was somewhere on watchbus that JF actually sold more grape than other colors. They are probably selling more of them in Asia - people there prefer louder colors.

Well all I can say is that ive spent ttime with the gen and Ive spent time with the JF, albeit I have not had both together at the same time but I remember them as virtually the same color. The thing about grey sunburst dial is that the ligjt refractions create a wide range of hues and shades and colors, to me in my memory of the two dials they are the "same"...

Well, then it would appear JF made the right dial choice for the gen purchase. How unfortunate, lol. Kidding aside, being the typical “ugly American”, the differences in East/West preferences isn’t something I considered, since Western preferences are always right and superior, LOL.
****please note: before folks start bashing me, this is SATIRICAL****

When light hitting the dial, gray color contrast between light gray and dark gray is much bigger on JF than on gen.
It's pretty the same story with blue dial but it's much more noticeable on blue.

To rep those dials spot on they really need gen as a reference. They are very tricky to replicate.

Thanks for posting. I think Rolex need to talk to JF on tips on how to align their rehaut properly
