@ Enzo - thanks for your tip on thinning the leather. I will definitely give it a shot.

Man the more I look at your strap the better it looks. Are you sure its not a genuine "Panerai"? Damn thing looks real. :)

Am I sensing some sarcasm here? ;)

The strap itself looks nice - I guarantee that it's probably some of the nicest leather quality you've seen. It looks funny on me cuz it's my wrist is so skinny :)

On pg 2, I made some adjustment. I took out a layer. See if that still looks too thick for me.

The buckle is from DSN ;)

I am as far from an expert as one can imagine (having never even heard of Panerai until a few weeks ago) but that watch really does look too big for your wrist.

Like others have said, wear whatever makes you happy though.

I guess it can be considered as "adding character" but that honestly doesn't look good to me.

Looks like a botched job more than anything else.

However, I say that as someone who wouldn't have the faintest clue on how to make my own strap (and would suck at it if I tried).

I think your wife got a point *LOL*

So...

I made the strap below for my PVD 009, which is still in parts :) I will be painting the sides later.

My wife thinks it looks really stupid on my wrist... it's about 7mm thick... and I have 6.5 inch wrist.

How does it look on my wrist?

Much, much better!

Now just replace the loop and match a good PVD watch with that buckle and you are done! [smilie=thumbsup.gif]

Thanks for the comments :)

I do not think the watch is too big (for my taste anyway :))
but I do agree the band was a too big for me haha

It's sometimes hard to see the flaws when you're the creator of something -
third-party opinions are very valuable.

Thanks again RWI!

really Listen to ur wife for a change lol
Babloba nailed it ! the ends need to be skived [ sliced on a small angle] to taper and thin the ends , and make it "lay" correctly . also the keeper is WAY out of scale and proportion . try a much thinner piece of leather or skive enough to make the keeper thin and a little narrower:)
skiveing: u need a THIN square straight edge to skive , think straight edge razer . a utility knife with sufficient blade length to span clear accross the width might be a hot tip :) a wide SHARP wood chisel with a good handle might do it famously , or a chinese vegetable knife gripped with 2 hands and pulled toward the end like a spoke shave :)
skiveing could be done in 1 pass, straight across the full width of the leather strip .
thick straps : I have NEVER understood the desire for a thick , out of porportion strap . look at a gen Panarai strap . theres a good reason they arent thick! however,i agree they are a little thin :) i have a narrow tolerence for thickness . i prefer .090 to .125 thou thick :) i have a nice .160 thk. Toscana lt brown buffalo on my fiddy and i think its too thick and stiff . i have been wearing it 24/7 for 4 months and its still too stiff and STILL looks too thick :)
let your beautiful watch do the talking , not a cargo strap LOL the watch looks good on u , the strap screams "look at me , look at me !" JMHO , of which i have many lol :)

Hey JoeJoeJoe,

Please know we are only having fun. I lack the skills to do any kind of craft work with my hands. Its cool in a way. I showed my sister, wife and grandmother. Please know we are only joking with you. Thanks for posting JoeJoeJoe... this has been one of the best threads.

I have to agree with JCM1662.

If you like it, wear it with pride!

A little critque from the community can be a good thing too, and some of the suggestions to modify it sound worth considering.

In the end though, you love it you wear it, if you think it needs work, then work it some more. Personally, I think it looks pretty awesome as it is . . . .

No worries Ron. No offense taken :)

All in good times.

More straps will be coming ;) I will learn to stitch too eventually. My wife used to make me straps but
she got sick of it already haha

You need to get rid of that lame B&R type watch strap buckle, and replace it with a BIG black wrought iron custom made double-deployant buckle to match the strap properly.

huh? :) the buckle is tip top - from DSN. 24mm PVD buckle with PANERAI & the logo engraved.

As good as it gets for 24mm buckle.

Not a big fan of deployant buckle. I think it's more suitable for 40mm Pam

Joe, don't try it! Someone went a little too enthusiastic on this project of yours.

Deployants are:
- acceptable (even if unconfortable) on 3mm straps
- a real hassle to have them fitted on 4mm straps
- impossible on 5mm straps.

Been there, done that... [smilie=icon_blackeye.gif]

It's big but it looks cool. Keep it and don't listen to the haters.

Or if you HAVE to get rid of it, you can send it my way.
