So...

I made the strap below for my PVD 009, which is still in parts :) I will be painting the sides later.

My wife thinks it looks really stupid on my wrist... it's about 7mm thick... and I have 6.5 inch wrist.

How does it look on my wrist?

Well...............not really my kind of strap.
I like my straps to be 3-4mm thick and 7mm is a biiiiiit too much for me...so I have to agree with the wife

IMHO, the whole watch is a litle to big for your wrist. The strap itself kind of overpowers the watch instead of complimenting it.

haha leather shackle ;) my wife will get a kick out of it

I wish I had a leather layer cutter (donno the proper word for it) so I can cut out some of the thickness.

The leather (ammo pouch) itself is amazing with great patina, but it's just too damn thick :)

I am so used to wearing thin straps that it's kind of unconfortable, but I do like the way it looks on me haha

I will be wearing it, I just wish I had bigger wrist, you know?

Just got BOB Night blue gator skin~ probably more suitable for me.

Thanks for all your opinions (& Keep 'em coming~~ ^^)

OMG!! Seriously, my gf and I are sitting here laughing our asses off, no offense....

I mean I have seen some thick straps but DAAAAMMMNN that thing is way too big....

Honestly, I'm all for the "where what makes YOU comfortable" thing but there is a line........................ and you crossed it.. :)

"How does it look on my wrist?"

Any relation to E.T. by any chance ?! LOL !

On a more serious note, the strap is just a tad too thick, I believe the leather was sourced from the old ammo pouch, and while top quality, 'double-sided' don't look right IMO.

How about making it single sided ? That should just about be close to 3.5-5mm in thickness. Single sided strap would require beveled edges at both the lug and buckle ends, but with a little bit of know-how and practice, you should be just fine. You could then stitch it only at the lug and buckle ands, very similar to Enzo's method. Or instead of stitching you could use rivets, fixed or removable (screw) style.

Alternatively, use single layer of leather like described above, bevel it, than glue it to the softer and thinner underside piece made of nappa leather or soft cowhide for comfort and nicer feel in contact with the wrist. It should still be less than 5mm thick.

just my 2 cents...

cheers,
babola

Me thinks the same :)...just make sure you bevel the lug and buckle sides first.

I have never seen a belt on a watch before  Very unique and I admire you for pushing the envelope. If you like it that is all that matters, well except for your wife of course, she matters the most. :D

I agree with your wife - the PAM is pretty much too big for your wrists already, that strap makes it look a little silly.

The strap actually looks bigger than it is in the photo as watches always do. It is a trick of the eye. However that strap is still on the thick side for your wrist and for probably most peoples taste. That being said, the important thing is how you feel about it. Don't you give a rip about anyones opinion but your own because that is the only opinion that really matters. If you are happy with it then keep on truckin!

I think it's looks alright. You just need to slide the keeper to the end of the long piece of the strap and away from the buckle. That will help to draw in the loose space the thickness creates.

Good job on the strap and good looking leather.
