Not sure if everyone knows, but Omega is no longer offering the SMP in a quartz movement. 2011 batch was the last year. So you will only see the new ceramics in mechanical.

I believe the only exception would be women's models.

Those of you with gen quartz SMP's (including myself), hang on to them. They're going to be a good one to keep...

Thanks for the info, always fancied a gen SMP and the quartz was a possibility, hope this doesn't push up the used value too much!

Yep this is true it seems, phasing out all male quartz models, including smps and aqua terras. I've both a blue smp quartz and an aqua terra teak dial quartz, one has to go, wasn't sure which to offload but seeing as this is their new policy I think I might try hold onto both if possible.

I love autos, but sometimes quartz is just great, autos have all the soul but quartz just doesn't get enough love for its simplicity, and the quartz models have all the finishing of the autos in these without any of the bullshitt. So easy to off the back yourslef and put a £1 battery in there when the time comes and away you go....none of this £300 quid for a service malarkey!

I have a quartz smp. It's the best of both worlds, looks of a high end Swiss watch with quartz reliability.

I love my quartz smp, it was my grail above any other watch and still remains my favourite.

Omega are trying to be Rolex with range and pricing, but why bother. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

In good nick such as yours these go for about £800ish+ in the UK, the price has been rising though of late, seen a few go for around £900. I would hold on to any 2254 or 2264 for a while if I had one, with no quartz models in a few years, the old blue quartz will be sought after, but these in good condition will be as rare as hens teeth.

+1...

I have been watching quartz SMP's on eBay the last few weeks because I recently bought one through local classifieds and wanted to see what kind of deal I got. I've seen them selling for...

-Full size, 41mm with polished bezel: selling for $750.00 USD (via auctions) and up to $1,100.00 USD (buy now). One just sold last week for $500.00 USD, but it had a nato and broken HE valve. It was in terrible condition.

-Full size, 41mm with blue bezel: selling for $950.00 with no box (via auctions) and up to $1,300.00 (via auctions). Buy nows are up and around the $1,300.00 mark as well.

Note: Of course you will get the odd auction that closes at 10%-15% less than what i've noted above. The figures are just an average from what i've seen.

I'm not crazy about quartz either, but i've religiously always been a Bond fan and the Seamaster Professional has always been my #1 fav watch.

The quartz SMP was the intro SMP to the Bond series... A lot of people mistaken this for the Chronometer...

I wish they made a good quality quartz rep of these. Its a real shame that the quartz version of most reps are absolutely crap, inferior dial and cases most of the time. People I buy presents for would prefer quartz because its much easier for them, they don't care about the romance of an automatic they just want a watch that works.

Is Bond's SMP missing a pearl in that pic? Never noticed that!

The pearl is hollow b/c in that scene the pearl is actually a red blinking LED indicator for the armed remote mines...

Bond uses his multi-purpose Omega Seamaster quartz throughout Goldeneye. Firstly, he uses its powerful laser built into the case to cut through the floor on Alec's Missile Train when he is trapped with Natalya. The other feature of the Seamaster was like in Tomorrow Never Dies; a button could be pressed to detonate a device controlled by the watch.

Bond attaches mines to a number of barrels of flammable liquid in Alec's Cuban base. However Alec unwittingly de-activates the mines by pressing a button on Bonds Omega Seamaster watch.

Nice watches omega guy. I have just acquired a new bezel and insert to refresh my smp.

I'll probably sell the old insert, but I'm doing a Franken po 42mm too and may use the pearl for that project.

Is it a gen dial on your 007 smp? Looks good.

Everything on the FrSMP is gen with the exception of the case, bracelet and movement :)

It's a Swiss ETA movement.

What case did you use and how does it compare to gen?

I kick myself for selling my old closed factory smp, if only I'd known about Franken watches in them days!
