Omega BioCeramic MoonSwatch. Thoughts around the Rep version.

The eagle eyed people already noticed the crown. Next step is to replace the crown as well with a metal crown. Parts are already at home but the sun has gone. So TBC....
I also have a bracelet lying around and a red strap as well to test. But i would prefer a good Omega rep bracelet so if someone knows one let me know!

Its been said before, but TL;DR is:
The carbon reps are on par with the gen, including the same movement.
They are both shit, so if I was ever dumb enough to buy one, Id go with the rep 100% of the time.

Thank you to everyone that has responded to the question: is the replica version of this watch as good as the original and, along w/sweep movement and stainless steel chronometer, it's appears to improve on the original article. The general consensus is that, for a Swatch product (nevermind the Omega Speedmaster brand), this is ultimately an attractive but underwhelming product that a) scratches very easily, b) plastic casing is remarkably disappointing and c) the watch keeps very bad time (problems with hand alignment, etc.). Several YouTube reviews have confirmed all of the above. The point being that for $US 400+, the replica version is actually a better product. My personal (absolutely worthless) opinion is that Omega, part of Swatch group, borrowed and tarnished one of history's most iconic watch faces in a very tricky strategic move. Still, it's a fun looking cheap watch.

You mean 40+ dollars. I agree the reps are a better choice based on the quality level and the servicability of the rep which is not possible with the GEN. I however think the choice of the moonswatch is a Swatchgroup choice not Omega themselves but thats a guess.

Thank you for your reply. I meant to say $400+ as the price of a new Moonswatch but my sentence structure was abysmal. And I have to agree with your point: it is highly probable that it was SwatchGroup that spearheaded this idea and not Omega. Thanks for the correction. One would imagine that there were probably more than a few senior executives at Omega that responded with "you want to do what with the Speedmaster?",

My 2c

I received the moon “moonswatch” as a Christmas gift. I’m a huge Omega fan and I already have a couple of IRONY models from swatch. Both are great brands in their own right. This “love child” between them is an amazing concept and the product itself is well….. more swatch than omega and I don’t think anyone doubts that. On my gen Moonswatch I’ve already swapped out the Gen Velcro strap ( WTF were they thinking ) for a rep Omega rubber Speedmaster strap and deployant. Already looks better and has raised the aesthetic and quality feel of it whilst wearing to another level. I also have some cheap hydrogel screen protectors on the way to place over the crystal. All in all it’s a decent watch and I love that it has the Gen Speedmaster dimensions and 1:1 look.

As for buying a rep of this watch… it’s subjective as hell as the Gen isn’t that expensive to warrant a rep purchase IMHO. Only Eason to get the rep is the BS Rolex style waiting list to get one of these and the restriction on the outlets. You can only purchase in store and at selected Swatch stores at that… bloody hell.

Anyways, if the rep on this floats your boat more power to you and I hear the rep has a saphire crystal !!! Can anyone confirm as that’s a big +++

This. I like velcro straps but wtf were they thinking with that lopsided buckle..it's unsightly, uncomfortable and already a $2 elastic loop from aliexpress elevates the watch

It is that BS waiting list and the limited brick and mortal stores that are able to sell them approach that i went rep to find these gems. Otherwise i would have bought Gen in the first place. I have a Swatch store 1 km from my home but that one is not allowed to sell these. WTF. Well then my money goes to easily available good quality reps. This also has huge mod potential. I already love my metal mod!!

They are not widely available and still difficult to get from the limited swatch store outlets. The ones flipped on eBay and other platforms are 2,3 and 4 times the price so they are still poison in price.

The main issue with the rep is that it’s a bad copy of an already mediocre watch. It’s like a bad photocopy of a photocopy.

I meant more like on ebay than in the swatch stores. I've tried to buy one a few times but all the London stores have are nasty colour ones like Saturn. But yes, essentially a copy of a cheap product anyway.

Well they are not here in the Netherlands my friend. And if you have seen the quality of the reps you realize that only the SWATCH shops will guarantee a GEN. All others sources could well be reps, you will not notice the difference. Knowing that and that i have to drive 90km in the hope they have any and if so the one i would want no thank you. I am an avid fan of these moonswatches but find the sales approach idiotic. And know this, if the movement breaks you can throw it away, Bye bye watch. The reps have a caseback that can be openend. Also the gen movement has an annoying quartz dead second chrono hand, the 3 dollar rep movement has a sweeping hand. Knowing all this i only buy reps. And how easy? I go to something called a website, press buy now, pay, wait 2 weeks and here is a perfect clone including box and papers. Welcome to the 21st Century Swatch group.
