Hi, Gang!

Briefly, I was going to replace the nato strap on my 5515, (Rolex Sub "T") I believe, with a rubber strap but encountered spring bars that appear to be immoveable (Pics provided). Any ideas of how I can remove these & use slimmer spring bars? Much appreciated.

I have a case just like that too. I think the only option would be to drill out the lugs, but you would end up with large holes. Maybe you could cut the strap tubes, but then you'd have to somehow drill small holes into the inside of the lugs. Either way is pita...

Thanks, mates, for the advice. @ r2d4: No lug holes on the case, so's I'd have to drill one (no way!) or maybe use metal snips & cut the spring bars & insert new ones. I'll have to think about that last one. (or just accept the fact: natoes only.)

didn't some "millitary" issue subs have fixed bars per regulation? I think the "T" is that version

Thanks, C.M! Your link hit the nail on the head, so to speak. Guess I have the 5513. Link story makes sense & shows the types of spring bars it has. That's just how it is so it stays w/ natos.

Im pretty sure these just replicate the look of fixed bars by having a tube over a normal spring bar, and once it's in it's in. The application of some brute force should mangle the bars out and you can replace them with normal spring bars.

Im not 100% sure though so you do this at your own risk!

I'd like to find those tubes. It would be a nice addition to one of my Sub's.

I assume someone like Ofrei or eBay might have them. I'll take a look around & see... .

I've heard this too. I doubt our industrious Chinese rep makers are making a whole new case just to get fixed bars.

I think it's just a tube covering your normal bars. If it were me, I'd take a dremel with a cutting wheel (or ever just a hacksaw) to the middle of that bar. I'm willing to bet a bunch of pieces will fall apart.

EDIT: Dave, see that tiny gap between the bar and the lug in the top of your pic in the first post? Can you slide (assuming I'm correct) the "outer bar" back and forth between the lugs at all?

Just cut them in half with a pair of dykes, then replace them with a new set of shoulderless springbars of the proper width:

..uh, no dykes for me: they scare the hell out of me & would probably kick my ass, too! (Jeeze, how embarrassing!)

dave

BTW: robbnj: Thanks for the ideas on THOSE types of dykes... .

dave, how did it go with the dyke experiment? (the uh... nevermind you know what I mean) I had issued with a gmt-c simillar all I did was pry with the finest flat screwdiver I had and kept at it. Best of luck with whatever "method" you employ.
